GRP wings....GRP arches or new steel for Mexico wings?

    Hi all.

As the title indicates i am exploring my options for getting some mexico arches on my Escort.

    My choices are:

    1) GRP full wings (Xsport racing where helpful here)
    2) GRP arches...Whats fitting like? I expect a PITA.
    3) New steel...anyone want a kidney?

Whats people experience with the GRP options as my wings are solid and i sont want to spunk 700 plus € on steel unless its my only option. But the last time i saw GRP wings they where shyte, weighed a ton and paint wouldnt stick.

    Help!

Couldn't you keep your solid steel wings, cut off the arches and cut in GRP Mexico arches, blend, fill and finish?

Thats one of my options. How hard is it though? How are they first fastened before blending?

in the old days it was with pop rivets, these days its probably better to bond them on with tigerseal or similar

As I recall when 'Custon Car' converted a base RS2000 to X Pack, the GRP pieces were positioned and drilled to receive self taping screws, then the GRP pieces were removed and a layer of GRP resin and glass mat added to the metal wing with resin painted on the GRP bits. Then one applied to the other and the self tappers screwed in to hold all together. Once hardened screws could be removed (if greased first) or left in permanently before getting blended with body filler! You could use a modern auto body adhesive instead of the resin and use rivets - many ways to skin a cat!
