Escort mkI 1968 VIN plate decode

Hello,

Is there someone who has the original Ford book that explains how to decode the vin plate from a 1968 Escort mkI ?
I have found here on the forum how to decode the later mk1 plates, but I want to make sure the earlier ones are the same do decode?

It might be a 68 car, but that is not a genuine 68 period Vin plate.


Unless it's an import bodyshell, I think they're different.
