Type 9 gearbox nose seal, is there 2 sizes? Big things tiny holes grief.

Decided to re do the seals on the Sierra type 9 gearbox before I threw it back in the escort.
i took the seal that goes around the input shaft out and I can’t get another one to fit it.
bought two sets of fleabay and then one of burton and I goosed all three trying to press or hammer them into the front shaft housing.
seems the seals around 40mm and the hole in the front shaft housing is only 38mm. It ain’t going in there.
rear one and speedo ones were no bother, anyone else know what’s going on?

Real bugger was the old one was totally fine, it was just the housing gasket was leaking.
    cheers

You could contact bearingkits co.uk as they do seal kits for the type 9 and explain your problem with the seal size. Failing that go to a local bearing stockist with your front tube and they should be able to size match the seal.

That’s a good idea. Cheers for that.
