    Plexi-glass rear screen fitment

I've fitted my side plexiglass-glass windows in my Escort but have a question regarding the rear screen.

I see some guys use retention straps or some small brackets over the rubber, I'd imagine this is to stop the screen blowing out, are these always needed with plexiglass-glass?

More likely due to Plexi being thinner than real glass so it fits the rubber like a 'sausage in a sock' so needing additional retention!

My plexiglass is 4mm, same as the glass but not wanting to drill unnecessary holes or have the rear screen blow out

I can't imagine why you would need any retention straps if the plastic windows are the same thickness as the original glass. Surely they should fit in exactly the same way.

I always thought those crude plates riveted to the bodyshell and going over the window rubbers was to stop the front and rear screen popping out in the event of a light Roll on a competition car.

no idea how rigid they are but could possibly flex and pull out ? its surprising the pressure you get when slamming a door for instance.

I'll second that, the front screen on my car's got little tabs to prevent the screen from popping out.

Thats my thought, the plexiglass can flex a lot more than glass, and given enough internal pressure I'm feeling maybe it could pop out at high speeds.
I do however have those "helicopter" vents in the rear quarters so with those open the pressure should be relieved, well thats my theory
