Intermittent wheel wobble

Weird thing I’m having with my mk2 escort

Really violent intermittent wheel wobble as if the wheel is going to come off

happened on the last rally

Wheels are balanced no play in the track control arms or track rod ends

no noticeable play on the steering rack

any ideas folks??

As in the track rod between the rack and the trackrod end?

Mud in back of rims ?
Crap wheel bearings ?
Poor quality alloy hubs ?

the fact its intermittant may be down to front geometry, sometimes issues can be hid / magnified by the setup
