    south african escort brakes

anyone have info on rear drums that are larger dia than uk RS ? look to be 9 1/8 inch ish ? shoes are still 2" wide. fitted to one of the export axles ( 50p shape diff cover). all in good condition so if spares available in future i will keep the brakes. ( shoes girling) , thicker on bolting face than uk drums.
    any help welcome.

I thought 9" was the largest std fixture - maybe the drums have been skimmed - a 1/16" depth of cut isn't beyond possibility to correct an oval or grooved / scored drum?

i suppose you could be correct but they all look new tbh its about 5mm bigger. they are a different "style" to uk drums in that they are less "sculptured" if that makes sense , just plain machined out drum - no shape to faces.

Do they look like this? These are the rear brakes from a Mk1 Mexico.

yes i think the drums do at least, didnt take much notice of the backplates. im not sure they would bore out 5mm tho ? and are the face plates at least 3mm thick rather than the 2 mm max on mk2 ones ? cheers

Face plates? If you mean the thickness of the drum where it mounts against the halfshaft flange then it's just under 7mm.

yes thats what i was refering to. it all adds up but a 5mm or so skim out still seems a lot. i will get pics next time i look but they may well be as yours.
