Type E Input shaft oil leak

I keep suffering from an oil leak on the gearbox input shaft oil seal, i’ve Changed the seal but still have the same problem. Has anyone else suffered from this?

i made sure that when I fitted the shaft cover I applied a small amount of sealant on the screws and around the outside of the o ring but to no avail

my my only thought is that any miss alignment between input shaft and crank would unevenly load the seal.....

It shouldn't do as the end of the input shaft should locate in the spigot bearing, thus leaving no movement anyway.

Unless the input shaft bearing is badly worn thus allowing it too much movement in the gearbox anyway.

I'm sure someone else will have some ideas aswell.

Are you sure it's the oil seal that's leaking or is it coming from another source.

The oil Is ending up inside the bell housing and there looked to be signs of it forward of the seal. It’s not a big leak but any oil in the region of the clutch makes me nervous on a competition car

Cable or Hydraulic clutch? as there is a possible source of oil? Also consider crank rear main seal - as its behind the flywheel and clutch its a notorious oil source across many car models!

It’s cable clutch and definitely gearbox oil, can’t mistake the smell of that nasty stuff I had thought maybe rear crank seal but this was completely dry

Does anyone fit a gasket as well as the o ring?

I had thought about maybe looking to source a double lip seal to fit

Are you fitting a new bellhousing gasket?

No need for a gasket if you're fitting the correct size O ring to the input shaft tube.

Yeah new bellhousing gasket, new shaft seal and new mating face o ring seal!

I've also measured the depth of the lip seal from the mating flange to ensure that it's locating on the correct portion of the input shaft and that also seems to be fine, although it could possible go slightly reward but that would require fitting a spacer shim into the nose cover prior to fitting the seal which seems a bit OTT!
