i assume by pump fuel you mean unleaded? look for letters stamped on the side of the head next to number 4 exhaust port

Living where you do I would either call CTM or Vulcan for a price. It needs to be someone that understands the valve geometry of a Pinto because if the seats are set at the wrong height it'll throw your valve lift out.

CTM did Burton's work at one time as their premises were right next door.

Gosney's too have a good name in engineering. With modern engines now outlasting the other crap that's fitted to them there isn't the same demand for the good old fashioned engine recon shop anymore.

I think there 0.003" interference fit _36deg in the nitrogen and warm the head then hammer them in.

I was thinking of having a go myself lol put the inserts in the freeza then warm the head up,I've got one of them old school wholf valve seat cutters with the stones, the only thing is jigging the head up to get the angle, I think I skip it lol

    Re: Pinto head

0.003 is a bit loose for an alloy head, prob bit tight for iron. know plenty of people that hammer the inserts in iron head with everything at room temp, once in they distort teh inlet seats so they need cutting afterwards.

the recess for the inserts really need doing with a cutter not stones.

theoretically i have seat cutting kit which will do it, BUT i still send head out to have it done.

Just to jump on this thread, I have a friend who had just bought an Austin Healey 3000 and he wants me to take the head off for an unleaded conversion in the New Year. Do you sent the bare head away for that to be done or leave it all complete?

Are Gosnays ok for this type of work?

they may charge to strip it, so i just send a head with the valves loose in the guides. theres no reason why Gosnays shouldnt be fine
