    Help advice Escort MK1

Greetings to all users of the turbosport.co.uk forum

I apologize at first for my poor English writing.

I have been following your topics on the forum for several months and I decided to present my project.
I am writing to you from Croatia.
I own a Ford escort mk1 and it's time to put the car on the road.

The car requires a complete restoration of the body and mechanics.
For the bodywork is not a problem, I saw on the forum that all parts of the bodywork can be ordered.

The problem is the engine, now it is factory 1100 ccm and I want a 2.0 engine, browsing your forum I saw various combinations of built-in engines.
Unfortunately in my country it is very difficult and impossible to get certificates for any processing that is not from the time of that car so I decided on the 2.0 Pinto engine (from Ford Taunus) it seems to me that this is the fastest and easiest solution for me. (correct me if I'm wrong)

I would be very grateful if you would like to share a few tips with me.

A recommendation on what I might have a problem with.
Necessary components to perform the entire mechanical part (gearbox, transmission, engine mounts, radiator ...)

    Thank you

    looks good

first up google - fit pinto in mk1 mk2 escort - this will get you some good results, many from this site. then when you begin to understand you can ask questions on specific parts.

Thank you for the quick answers.

I agree with everything you said but I thought someone could give me direct links to buy the necessary parts.

I searched as you advised me and found a few topics describing the swap works but unfortunately not the whole work was accompanied by pictures and papers published but only the advice of the people who did it.

I am happy with that too.

Thank you for your help, I am starting to order parts for the bodywork soon, the engine with the Type 9 gearbox is in negotiations.

If you can't find used parts somewhere like Burton will get you most of what you need - not cheap though !

After a long search for a Ford Sierra and Pinto engine, I finally found the whole car Sierra 2.0 Ghia, unfortunately not the best condition, but the engine is spinning and a 5-speed gearbox .

If that Sierra has a 5 speed, the gearbox mount will also fit an Escort tunnel quite nicely as well - I use the same mount in my Mk1 Escort.

But, it would pain me to see that Sierra scrapped, they command a premium now and are almost certainly into desirable classic territory.

Maybe by very strange folk certainly not normal car collectors!

If that Sierra has a 5 speed, it will almost be worth more than the car!

    You might be surprised.

I recently saw a Mk1 Estate sell for £5500. Mk1's are very few and far between now.

Mk2's a little more common, a Mk2 Estate sold on eBay last October for £3500

Yes, I agree with you that the value is increasing, but the condition of the car is very bad.

The car body is rotten and the interior is very bad.

The car has been standing in the rain for many years.
A complete restoration would cost much more than a car would cost.

    Yes, it has 5 speeds.

Some people tell me it could have a factory differential lock because it’s an extended version I’m not sure until we disassemble the car.

    Re: Help advice Escort MK1

Unfortunately the car goes for the parts I need for the escort mk1 engine, gearbox, transmission and the whole suspension and the rest of the car I will try to sell.

Unfortunately this Sierra does not have disc brakes on the rear wheels so I will have to find a solution to this problem because I want my escort mk1 to have disc brakes on all the wheels.

I think there will be a lot of work around the engine

The owner changed the engine, so I'm not sure what power this engine has, any help is welcome.
