    Pinto valvetrain questions

Hi everyone, does someone happen to know how much lift I can have before running into coil binding problems (with some stronger single springs)? And how much lift before I need long thread rocker joints?

    Thanks, Elias

Depends on coils used. Second question, that is related to the base-circle of the cam not lift.

most of the time you can get away with .500" lift, but that depends on the springs and your second question as Leon pointed out depends on cam base circle. most cams you do not need them

Thank you for your answers. Unfortunately the company that sells the springs doesn't specify the wire diameter. So the long threaded rocker joints are only needed for reground cams, the cam manufacturers probably would specify if cam has smaller base circle?

wire diameter doesnt come into it, its how many coils.

these days most cams are gorund on new blanks so have standard base circle

Just to add that some followers use a higher pivot point. These require long ball studs even with a cam with std base circle.

You may better choose one stiffer single spring from the known names such as Kent, Piper, Newman, Catcams, Burton etc.

Which camshaft are you planning to use ?
All these companies suggest the correct valve spring and cam follower for their cams.
