my recollection is the were not painted, only cam and belt cover

yes i think blocks were always a sort of satin black ?

i seem to recall that for sierra era but not earlier ones

i can only remember early ones being rusty but assumed they started black, never saw one new

I got a blue 2ltr transit engine 1987 and it's ford blue,I was thinking it the blue rs2000 ,it has blue cam cover and blue rocker cover,turns out the low compression engines were blue,leaded head stamped "R"

I think most ended up blue hammerite!
