    Accident with a modified car.

    Hi all,

    Bad day.

I got a parked car today it was parked next to a van and I thought the space was empty. Looked to my left as I turned in as something distracted me and BANG!

Not to much damage as low speed but it will need to go through the insurance.

I'm not going to try and wiggle out of it but the car was clearly heavily modified and it made me wonder what would happen if the mods were not declared to his insurance.

Would the insurance assessor check this once they see the car or would they just pay out?

    It just made me wonder.

    Cheers.

hard to say, as its your fault and they are not going to be paying out its quite possible his insurance company will just ask him to pay any difference in premium. either way the assessor will only be interested in whats needed to repair it, not the ins and outs of cover

That's kind of what I was thinking but then I know how insurance companies don't like paying out.

Plus I remember when I was younger I was a little naught myself and didn't always declare modifications.

Hopefully it'll all go through with no issues, I feel guilty enough as it is.

    Cheers

I'll try to remember to up date you if it doesn't drag on to long.
I can't imagine my insurance will be bothered to check for any mods and as has been said the other car will most likely just be assessed on the damage.
But then if insurance companies doesn't wish to pay out looking for obvious none standard parts would be one way!
    Cheers for now,
    Po.

He could still get in grief if the assessor mentions modifications. But that's his bother, not yours.

You're still liable for the damage caused etc and any whiplash claim that will inevitably come as "victims" insurance love to pursue false claims like that
