Question - Type 9 Gearbox, speedo output.
Hello,
Thought I’d save myself some time and try my luck asking you guys in here for advice.
I have a later model type 9, which I am planning to squeeze into a ’59 Thames 300e along with a Zetec blacktop.
But the trouble being that this gearbox has the electronic speedo sensor, and no slot for wire output.
I have searched various forums and came across alot of good information, however not any info that answers the questions below.
My options and questions are
Option 1; Changing tail shafts- Are the tail shafts interchangeable between 4. and 6. cyl. applications?
(I have several V6 gearboxes on shelf.)
Option 2; Machining an adapter- Would it be possible to machine an adapter to fit a speedo wire to existing worm gear? -I have the machining drawings in mind, and access to all neccesary machines.
- From what I understand normal ratio is approx. 3.57 with 7tooth worm and 25tooth gear.
Would it work if I make a 18tooth gear to accompany the 5tooth worm for el.-speedo? This would give me approx. same ratio.
I’m sure that the most reasonable thing to do would be to just go electric speedo and be done with it, but I do want to keep the original 120km/h unit.
To see how fast I can bottom that sucker out. Hehe..
Best Regards
