Hi All,

Long time reader here. I have a Mk 1 Escort 2 door. It's fitted with a 1.6 Xflow and twin 40and I have just installed a Nodiz PRO GEN-X ECU with the provided pre-terminated loom (ZETEC). I am using the MIETE software as required for the GEN-X and loaded in a base map but capped max timing off at 34 deg as that's what my dizzy was set at. It fired right up, I made a quick adjustment to the crank angle sensor setting (in my case, 76 deg BTDC) by verifying the timing commanded by the ECU was achieved using a timing gun aimed at the toothed crankshaft pulley.

My first issue was the engine would not stop running when I removed the key from the ignition. The problem was the alternator and/or warning globe. When the key was turned to accessories or off, I had 3.5V at the ignition still and 3.7v at my relay for the ECU. Once I unplugged this globe, I got 0V and the engine immediately turned off. My solution was to wire a diode inline with the alternator excite wire. This meant current could not flow back through the ignition system. Problem solved.

My remaining problem is, I can't get my electric fuel pump to operate, nor my tacho. I have wired them both correctly according to the manual. The ECU doesn't appear to be switching grounds for some reason. My tacho did work for a very short while, but does not anymore. I unplugged my tacho wire from my tacho and the fuel pump wire (tried C1 and C2 on the ECU) from my relay and I don't get an output at all. Does anyone here run the new GEN-X and can help me with a calibration file? Perhaps there's something very embarrassing I've done wrong. My solution for now was to remove the fuel pump wire (fed by the ECU) and trigger my (fused) relay with my ignition wire instead. I really should wire in a switch if I continue to use this method however as I don't like the fuel pump running as soon as my Ignition is on in case I'm having cranking issues etc as it'll flood the engine. I used to use a special relay with a 3 second prime and then it would be triggered by the tacho input to continue running and turn off if the engine died. I cannot do this yet as I cannot get any sort of tacho signal (or -, switched ground signal).

I have contacted Motorsport Electronics but am hoping for additional input if someone on this forum knows a fix.

Thanks!
