Aley Roll Cage Tee Clamp

Hello,

This is a long shot I know and as much a "any idea where I might be able to get one from" as a "want"! I've bought an old Aley Roll Bar (can't call it a cage) for an MG Midget. It is basically just a hoop and a single central bar that bolts to the rear 'floor'. But, it didn't come with the clamp to join these two pieces and this is what I am asking if anyone might have , or know where I might find one. The tubes are 1.25" (32mm) and the original clamp would have been like this...

I know that the spec of this bar is not going to offer huge protection but it is better than nothing and only for a road car.

The other thing is that having googled around a bit, I gather that before he started casting his own clamps, John Aley just used agricultural clamps for tubular gates and fencing and so this would be Plan B.

Ok well, I know you say it's only a road car. However, alloy roll cages were banned from motorsport as they found the material could crack under stress.

Thanks very much for the comment. I just double checked with a magnet and the bar is steel and not alloy - I guess John Aley is a coincidental name for a roll cage manufacturer!

It is true that the single bar connecting to the rear floor (very much like the cages in the Italian Job Minis bolting to the middle of the parcel shelf) is not going to provide the most integrity but better than nothing.

The rear of a cage normally mounts to the inner rear wheel arches, well it does on a Mk1-Mk2 Escort anyway.

It will need at least one triangulation in its construction otherwise it'll just fold over. You definitely need the rear mounting section, otherwise, it would just fold over with ease in the event of a rollover.

Thanks both. Yes certainly needs the triangulation. The Kee Systems one wouldn't work because I wouldn't be able to slide it over the main loop. I could use something like this ...

Anyway, there is no huge rush. I am still waiting for the shell I bought two and a half years ago but that is another story!!
