Does anyone know much about these engines?
They look like they have potential, but manual gearbox conversions seem a bit limited
According to the guy at work who was going to fit it to his Subaru reckons making any box fit is easy enough

According to this vid you can use a Supra W58 gearbox.
Plenty of conversions done here in oz. There is even a mk2 escort circuit racer getting around. Respond quite well to tuning and boost. There is a bloke here that does a manifold for gsxr itb's. Only problem is the manual gearbox conversion and they are a little wide. A quick google search should come up with plenty of completed conversions.

Just bought a complete ls400 myself, and a supra w58 box. I'm gunna build a Capri v8 drifter and have been looking into it myself. Www.lextreme.com is the site you want for info.
In n/a form, they are expensive to tune as its hard getting cams etc for them.
They love a bit of boost though, and if you turbo them as standard they will do 500hp+ easy on a early engine (pre 94)
Only expensive bits are the manual conversion kits. About £600 for a bolt in one.
ive seen the mk3 supra r154 gearbox mentioned as another option, again though its still in need of the conversion kits
My Project... Fiesta D-TEC
have you seen how much R154's go for?
yeah, fuck loads! thats why i was asking
theres apparently auto boxes which can be electronically fooled to become manual boxes too

nieghbour has one in his capri.
but we need to figure out what to do with the front anti roll bar as the sump is in the way.
he has an mt75 behind it with a homemade adaptor plate.
Fit compression struts with some heavier poundage front springs to counter body roll
Could you please get me some more info / pics on your neighbours conversion?
My Project... Fiesta D-TEC
what pound spring, i have a spare set of 250lbs would that be enough??
I'm really unsure, but have a word with Kyle from chizfab as he recommended this as a handling mod to me, then I thought it would clear the engine
My Project... Fiesta D-TEC
i have a 1uzfe in a mk 2 escort that i'm building at the moment, its easy as to adapt a manual box to the v8, just use the auto bell housing and make an adapter plate or buy one.
hmm...
My Project... Fiesta D-TEC
This company do the conversion or you can use.. http://www.thor-racing.co.uk/Manual_...ersion-311.asp

stoppp it
I've done a few conversions using the original Auto in pickups but I'm going to be doing a manual box project soon"
You can use the flywheel from the MR2 3SGTE engine BMW or S14 are cheaper gearbox options I'm going to look at the RX8 six speed at some point as well all require an bellhousing adaptor.
The engine is ridiculously strong 6 bolt main caps and the only engine to have FIA approval for use in a plane without additional safety features.
Baines racing are making 1200 and 1500hp twin turbo versions!!
Here's one of the projects I've done

That looks a neat project, do you use the stock ECU in the conversions you've done?
Cheers
Paul
currently stock ECU but there are something like 5 different types.
Friend of mine is doing this with 4-speed nascar box and also intend to make adapter plate for bmw gs6-53dz gearboxes for street use.
6 speed is200 gearbox cheap as chips and work very well
Nice job Freddy you should make and sell the flywheels a lot of people charging to much for them in the UK and better than re-drilling.
I wonder how the box will last I've seen conversions done with is200 using the original box and the torque killed the box.
Hopefully the RX8 box will be up for the task as this would make manual conversions cheaper.
I've got another one to do but for myself next year 74 short bed Chevy pickup this will be my daily shop truck v8 with affordable MPG.

It is a joint effort between me and a friend. He does the steel work i do the machining. No one really knows what these boxes can handle (although they are ment to be the same internally to the is200 and s2000 boxes) but i can tell you this, we will find out. People are doubting the rx8 box from the off but these people are still running 80's engines and boxes. If you don't try you don't know. I will report back and let everyone know how it is going as i think the rx8 is a brilliant/super cheap chassis for many engines.
Looking really good m8, like the flywheel & sump
Any updates Freddy
Any updates Freddy?
Nice work Freddy, I would be interested in a flywheel? also an adaptor to fit the engine to Audi 01e transaxle?
Thanks
