Do u 'have to' dry sump a s2000 vtec in an escort ?

Im building a grp4 mk2 escort which i want to run a vtec in.
Ive been told that the only way it wil fit is to dry sump it ?
Im tryin to do the build on a budget as most of us are and was wondering if there is another way around it ? The money i save would benefit a nice atlas.

mine isnt dry sumped.... alltho it isnt yet running, ive cut the original sump, and alltho the in-fill piece will be intricate, but will work, ive spaced the x member down 20mm, and the engine allmost touches the bonnet, but its in, and looks well, the thread isnt updated, as my ex missus used to do it me, and i cant work the picture thing... that and i havent got internet where i live.... i wont go dry sump, as i dont understand it, and its money better spent on a turbo.. the engine sits almost perfectly central over the front wheels, and is canted over as honda intended...the main area of concern is the steering rack bracket on the drivers side.... the cars sat waiting for me to pull my finger out, but im currently building a cortina deisel for a daily, so itll be another month or so before im back on with it.... must admit, im stupildy exited to hear it run.......

i love a challenge and when fitting the s2000 engine in my mk2 one of my friends who's heavily into 1000hp and above dragsters told me to wet sump, (also over rated prices) as stones can be thrown up and damaging the belt, hey presto knacked engine. So i flattened the sump, made a big baffled sump at the front and modified the pickup of the internal wet pump (cost £20 for materials as i can tig weld), my sump now houses 6 lt's of oil in it, ( and doesn't sit lower than the cross member) as to the standard 4.5 lt's. I am dry building my car at the moment and when finish i have loads of pictures to post.

I have seen several mk2 escorts with s2000 motors running modified wet sumps, but I would only ever run with a dry sump set up, yes the belt can break or be damaged from debris but its a million times better for oil flow on high performance applications!

Ive seen several 400-700 horse s2000's... And the one at my old job, had been running 450+ bhp for 30-000 miles.. We turbo'd it at 100k.. It was the gaffers...on standard internals and pump fuel.. They don't need wet sumping mate...

Wet sumps are for high G applications, I.e. full race on slicks!
