I have decided to buy an Ecu for my ST170 /Mk1 Cortina install
After basically wasting my time researching alternative. I noticed theres a few types ,Megasquirt ,Megajolt,Microsquirt ,Obviously this is my budget range
Are these the same or would i be better off buying a better used ecu?

M.s. takes a lot of research and time. I think an off the shelf ecu
would suit you better.

Megajolt is ignition only. Megasquirt is home or off the shelf build ignition and injection and you can add modules to it as required. Microsquirt is a sealed unit injection and ignition package. If you buy a built unit it only comes with a map that will start your engine. You will then need either to transfer someone elses map that suits your engine or map it yourself (but that applies to any ecu that you buy(.

I Absolutely do not want to learn about electrics what so ever
and i dont want to pay the earth ,i want to use my exhisting oe injection
and thats it .The original focus St 170 ecu n loom i have is no good unless i fit
all loom with clocks air bags etc etc ,The Esc is useless .

As I see it these are the options;
1. Buy emerald get it fitted and have Dave Walker map it, I have no doubt this would get the most from the engine.
2. Buy an ecu with a map in it and use as is, it will run in safe parameters but won't get the best from the engine (I know someone who bought an emerald but it overfuelled to protect the engine, when he rolled off the fuel it ran and still runs great).
3, Find ms installer and have them install and map (not all ms suppliers use genuine ms kit).
4. Bite the bullet fit ms and get on the learning curve.
5. Buy push bike (I have a really nice campag 11 speed equipped one for sale but it is the price of about 2 emeralds).

I've said it before, but I'll say it again one last time.
If you want to release the power that the ST170 engine can give you, speak to dynoman on here. He will supply and set up a MBE 9A4 ECU that will run the VVT system properly and release around 200 horses from a standard engine. That way you ave minimal wiring and no fiddling with computers.
NO form of megasquirt is going to suit you if you don't like wiring and / or fiddling round with laptops, because believe me there is a LOT of that with megasquirt.

Exboyracer is bang on, I’m an avid MS fan, I think it’s a great introduction to EFI and auto electrics. But if you don’t want to mess around with electrics and computers FORGET about the MS, it’ll only piss you off, delay your project, and WASTE your time and money. Save for a bit longer and get an Emerald pre wired kit (available from Dave walker or retroford), or I think the Omex ECU is available in a pre wired kit also.
Is that red Cortina yours? Any links to pictures of it?

Ok i found a fully built megasquirt in the usa with every single option/feature on it ,So no building it etc its about £300 shipped ,I am good with computers and have coded bits on my Audi using my china copy vag com cable
I have been reading about this for what seems like weeks .

you can get a ms fully built in uk, look on msextra.com but thats like buying a rc helicopter, its using it thats hard .
it takes a lot of research and you have stated (correctly i think) that you dont like reading /researching.
Yep i am bored fast especially reading about all this lot .its time i could be spending welding etc lol ,but will have to read more gumph
