Re: The mrs Mk3 Capri 1.6 Laser

So the story starts about 2 weeks ago. 'Mrs freddy' comes in and says give vince a shout as i have the cash to finally sort the car out. So after woeking it al out she was right. So i booked it all up and decided to get the cAr running on tuesday 21st ready dor friday. But as always i was busy and started wednesday. So i pumped the tyres up

Added petrol and conected the brand new batrery that had sat in the engine bay for a couple of months but hadn't been connected. It was very clear that it was not holding charge and would only tuen the car over and couple of times.

So i decided to strip the carb down and clean it out which i was glad i done as it was stinking and the secondry pump jet was blocked. Next was a brand new heavy heavy duty battery as i am fed up of the crappy batteries not working.

So i had it running in the garage on wednesday after stripping the carb but it died so after loads and loads of fucking about and checking the leads rotor arm dizzy and the electronic ignition it was narrowed down to two fuck plugs. Is i stole a pair out of a spare working pinto i had there the end result was this

    http://s1212.photobucket.com/user/fr...srsqe.mp4.html

The car was running sweet yet again UNTIL it stalled again and wouldn't start. So thinking there can't be much wrong i continued to get on with ofher things.

Any way that beings us to this morning wheee i had to run the cappa out of the garage do a three point turn and run down the lane on the starter motor. Where my mate lloyd was waiting with his brand new £800 winch to drag the cappa on. So we hooked her up and started winching the car on. Next thing you know this winch is sounding odd even though it has only pulled the cappa 2 foot DOWN the lane and the motor then starts smoking. So the starter and battery had another hammering helping us to push the car on the trailer.

So we are nearly there and just coming to the end of the M4 when there is a police car pulling people in to the services mainly vans and trucks.......i have never seen this before but i have heard about it. It was the dreaded vosa and police combo.

Well it turns out that because lloyd used a different truck to tow today because his mrs had his other truck he had the wrong plates on. So a steep £100 fine later we thought we would be on our way.....but that wasn't the case either. We had a drivers side indicator out. So checked the bulb and it was blown. Changed it and nothing happened so me and lloyd spend 1 1/2 hours fucking with it to get it working. By this time we were wet pissed off and very late.

Re: The mrs Mk3 Capri 1.6 Laser

We finally got to vince's rollers and loaded the cappa off. So first things first vince checks the jets in the float bowl to find that they were just rolling round in the bottom of the bowl. So i had a row for not tightening them up. After redrilling thwm to suit the carb it was go time to run her up and get a power reading, oviously with 4 new plugs in that were the same.

So she was run up and had massive miss under load. So vince looked at everything untill he worked out that the rotor arm was fooked. For once i didn't change the dizzy or arm as they looked fine. The next struggle was finding another he had no spare ones as there is less and less demand for them. Any way he finally found another one off another car that was there the car was run up and. Set up lovely with the jets being chenged for leaner ones low down and richer ones up top to help fuel economy and top end power, but no matter what he done the power was very low and thw ignition was advance to levels that would indicate it is a lc tranny engine as the peak power was 800/1000rpm lower than what it should be. Any way she made 105ft/lbs at 3k and 104bhp at 5k.

So bad old day but another brilliant outcome from mosley's rolling road. I will have some videos and pictre of the car on the roallers soon and after wards.

Well she has been on the rollers and ran 84bhp at the wheels :-\ Vince seamed to think that it is a low comp 2065 block as it needed more ignition advance than a hc engine. So in the winter the head will be off for a skim.

to be truthful I don't know isn't it just a spread sheet on a laptop where you enter in the ignition timing against the revs? Also have you had your carbs bogg bro'd? As it will save time and money when it gets on the rollers. message dynoman on here as that's Vince and he will tell you if he will do it. still trying to upload the videos now

out with the old interior and I with the new one. The old one is totally mint so will be up for sale incase someone wants it after that it will be in the skip.

The only thing that spoilt the interior was where a mouse had chewed through the rear bench material when It was in storage

the new shark grey 2.8 interior for a sportier feeling ride

as you can see from this picture there is minimal wear on all of the seats including the drivers one it just needs a good valet now!

I think both Bros strip clean and reject them for £80 plus p&p but it is well worth it as when it went on the dyno the jetting was spot on. Saves time and money on the rollers.

We went for a little spin in the cappa today to show john, the guy who used to own her for the 18/20years that she was laid up but he wasn't in. But the leccy fan clicks in and out a treat so the car is totally self sufficient so no worries about her cooking.

One happy girl who has forfilled her dream of one day owning/driving a capri around.

Well i haven't had much time to work on the car this week for various reasons but i managed to get round to changing the dizzy cap and rotr arm.

Which didn't go well at all as the new dizzy arm wasn't the right one and one of the leads broke so it is time for a brand new set of arcuspark ones.

Well when i was xhanging the dizzy cap last week the ends cam off the old leads so i ordered a brand new set of accuspark leads up to solve the problems so all the ignition is brnd new. The car now starts up a treat with a little dab of the throttle and idles at a very steady 1100rpm instead of having to hold the throttle for a few seconds like we have been and the idle gradually reduces as the auto choke does the job. Another job to tick off the list. Now to find that door handle!

Re: The mrs Mk3 Capri 1.6 Laser

Well today i fitted a new plastic membrane to the drivers side door and fitted the door card along with all the other gumf. Alls well

I then start fitting the rest of the window trim and soon notice that the sealent holding the window in is like bubble gum and the window is fallin out so iut comes the window and all the window trim. One step forward 2 steps back wards

So i got bored off all the bull shit and i didn't have any tiger seal so i fitted these

window all fitted and the door handle was found and fitted she just needs tidying up now. Been for an mot today and she passed with the correct plates fitted to the car apart from that the mot'er was impressed with the build standard of the car and said you don't see many of these and when you do they aren't half this good.

I have to fit some more trim and fit the door card and all she will need is a good clean which the mrs can do as i'm not the cleaning type. Bring on pencoed show.
