Well it is never as simple as adjusting the tappets one had came loose ripping the threads in the head. So after a littlw look online and getting bored. I rang up anderson race engines were i have had some piper gear from before and they have been great.
So i got the longer ball stud today and stripped the nut off the old one
Lookong at the nut i soon relised that i had been a silly boy expecting the nut ro be ok. So it was to the spare injection engine for parts. Its a shame to steal off such a mint motor but hey ho
Barerly used and well looked after. Which is more than i can say foe the pinto in the cappa with it's grooved and worn cam. :P
Any way with all that done and the alternator sorted it was time to fore her up. Or was it? Nope as the battery was flat so after a short charge she span into life and the top end was sounding great with the clearances all set right. Next up is to sort the mk2 escort.
glad you got her sorted mate always a bummer when threads strip
I have ball studs spare if you want 1 posted.
Top darts mate whats next on the mk2 then?
the mrs on the nurburgring

Well as I haven't been updating the blog it looks like we haven't been up to much but that isn't true. We have taken the cappa to classic ford show retro ford show and the 45th Capri get together at brookland a on the weekend just gone.
Here's a few photos of the weekend
One of the birds pride and joy the funny thing is the guy that bought her standard 1.6 laser seats parked next to us! He is also from South Wales. Small world eehhhhh
Another thing the mrs was over the moon with was she spoke to a photographer after I pushed her to ask for a few photos to possibly get in the magazine and guess what
She done the trip there and back with out a problem but the speedo not working done my head in.
So I set about fixing it along with changing the dash for the nearly mint one out of the 2.8. It was totally mint until the mrs poked her finger through the cooling holes.
Old dash out and next to the new one
Found this under the dash too what is it for as it has 4/5 wires going to it. One being a black earth one a red that is attached to the wiring loom and the other three are a white a green and a yellow which are all just hanging there
Looks like some kind of a large relay?????
All the dash up and running now for the first time in since has been on the road
The speedo is nice and smooth too
Next up is the knocking sportex exhaust that hits the axle on really bad bumps. And once the car is finished it is time to rebuild the 2.8 suspension and then fit it to finish the car. Also there will be an engine rebuild in the winter so a bit going on.
good thread just read from the begining

Very tidy job there fella and it's amusing how similar some of the pics are in our two threads I've now got paint envy though ...
Out for a drive on a sunny spring day reminds me why I got this car
well i was going to sell these callipers but i got them out the garage and stripped them and cleaned them all up ready to refit them to the cappa along with the spare gravel inserts, 180lb springs and 2.8 suspension all round to go on.
all dirty
one of the few times i use the kitchen sink......
half of the pistons cleaned up, good old stainless steel!
a nasty burr/bump o the bore of the pistons causing one to drag and catch when being pushed in and out minus the seals
blended back to solve the problem
all ready to assemble
seals in
pistons going in
Top Job
nice road trip there i just taxed the mk2 so we will have to sort a meet - breakfast runs are popular
Nicely done... you put me to shame I keep looking at my work diary wondering when I'm going to get the "spare" day to get mine out of the garage and down to the test station...
Out for a drive on a sunny spring day reminds me why I got this car
My mrs is kicking my arse to do it. that's the difference i think. If it was my car i would be under it now in a million pieces. But women are more organised and she set it all up so it is 3 days early for the show on monday. I am going to kick into the escort next week heavy too so there will be big updates on that thread soon.
Show ?
Looking good
She has been out to a few shows now. Really enjoying the smiles per miles. will upload pictures given the chance

On thw way home from ford fair the capri did start shaking the wheel badly on the way home. It has been doing it for a while always when braking, i have been struggling to find the sorce of the problem for months now. But we found the problem, and as always it is the only thing you haven't changed.
The rack bushes were in a right state so they had to be changed before the cappas next outing.
A video of how badly the rack moved before the bushes were changed

The new bushes.
New vs the old ones
You can see here how the mounts have worn in to the bushes over the years
Last but not least a video to show how little movement there is in the rack now. The car now drives perfect again poly bush, as always a worth while upgrade.

.
They are a worth while upgrade as the car drives much better now!
The mudflap has also been refitted to stop this happening
And the new window/door trim has also been fitted as the old stuff had had it.
I will be ordering 2 lengths of it for the mk2 as 2 lengths (the length of a capri door) will do two doors on the mk2 4door and it is the same stuff. Good old ford didn't like to change much theough out the range.
She made it in to classic ford mag this month too. Just a little snippet but it is something.
So after starting another thread about an under powered pinto on the forum that tuened out to have a lc bottom wnd i went in the search to see if the capris bottom end was a lc one or just worn.
It is coming up as 150psi accross the board so i am still unsure if it is or not. So a strip down is in order over the winter.
if its not had the head skimmed and is standard, then its most likely a well used but not clapped out high comp, if its got a cam in it and not had a head skim then 150psi is good but it would probably benefit from more compression
i'm thinking it is a standard hc motor ith just a piper 185 in too. She like to burn a bit of oil too so i would say tired. It was bought as a woeking engine and has done that for 2 years now so time for a rebuild over winter.
i have a full injection engine here That looks like new (only 65,000 on the clocks) would it be worth using the pistons and rods out of it over the standard items?
The plan is
sierra electronic dizzy (standard)
injection head
A new 185 cam again
injection rods and pistons
arp rod bolts
and the cr around 10.8-1
on a 32/26 weber and looking for about 130bhp at the fly.
