How a look at my van thread and it will explain everything i done on the i4 conversion. Some pictures of your i4 cappa conversion would be cool i wanna do it in her car one day!

Cheers for the info,
I will pop some pics up when I get going with it full time. I am just at the stage of collecting the bits together right now. Just the clutch problem to sort out, knock some mounts up for it and collect all the fuel lines and pump. I have everything else already.
Cheers.
The exhaust manifold all painted up and baked for a couple of hours.
And all polished up with scotch bright. Don't ask me how a matt like paint can shine like this after some elbow grease all i know is it did and i have been told it will stay like that too! But we shall see.
what have you done there then that looks really good
I have managed to get hold of a homemade relocation kit, it's the same principal as the Zetec ones and I am sure that a Zetec one can be adapted to fit. It's got a fabricated big wing sump with clearance for the starter motor. Also got a Weber alpha ecu and loom to sort the sparks if using a carb but I am wanting to sell this on as I have a dta ecu and jenvey throttle bodies.
Cheers.
bloody hell, what was that paint again?

sounds like an intresting build! i used the full 2.3 scorpio engine for my conversion as it made things much much easier when fitting the engine in an escort. If you need an inlet made up ther bogg bros are the people to talk too as they made my inlet manifold and it was perfect!
Well more progress. In the form of caliper building. The pistons are perfect or they seam to be at the moment as there i no fluid in them :-P.
Starting the rebuild
Fluid seal/ dust seal and piston in one half of the caliper
The two halfs lightly bolted together
Both complete calipers with pads waiting to be bolted to the strut for a final torque up.
Manifold placed onto the engine to make the bay look nice.
Servo vacum connected.
A quick question for the pros but what is that take off on the inlet manifold with the rubber glove cable tied over it.
And another quicky of the engine bay with the manifold and copper lines in it.
I also started stripping down the hubs to regrease the bearings and to fit the vented disks. So one side is completed as far as disks go. All i need to do now is get hold of some 5mm spacers for the calipers.

The only good thing about escorts getting Gucci status is that there are more capris getting done
Well if it wasn't for my mrs wanting this cappa i wouldn't be building this one up. Lol. I am an escort boy all the way i own a mk1 van and a mk1 escort shell. But it has been fun building up my first car that has had a respray. It won't be much longer now and she'll be done for the end of january at the latest hopefully!
The disks and the calipers fitted up ready for bleeding.
5mm spacers that were made today.
Basically i filled the braking system up with all the fluid i had in the garage and checked for any leaks on the connections put i'm please to say there was one from a rear slave cylinder which was a line that needed nipped up and there was a slight weep from the caliper joins so i tightened up the 8 bolts holding them together.
The most time consuming thing was dismantling the brake light switch and cleaning it and the contacts so it worked again. I'm getting there slowly i just wish i had more time to work on her!
Good stuff mate coming along nicely now
Well i tried the new starter motor but it didn't have the possitive takw off for the incase supply so i had to strip the old one down. I had a pretty good idea that the brushes would be fouling the two opposite poles and connect as one. Which is shown below.
So a little while later with a wire brush, emery cloth and a screw driver i cleaned it all up.
Which resulted in this! Straight off the cuff

And the all important spray bar check.
http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/...F9ECACC9FF.mp4
I got the original one i had dipped in some fluid that eats anything that isn't steel but when i put the spray bar on the engine the old oil clogged up the number 8 lobe feed on cylinder 4. So i had another spare dipped and fitted so after the engine was run up i checked the spray bar to make sure all & lobes were getting juice this time. Which they are for now untill we change the stinking oil and re-dip the other spray bar.

I will have to check the valve clearences on the cam as the top end sound snice a quiet which is either the sound of a nice lump or the sound of a badly adjusted tappet clearence to make it sound nice. :-P.
Nice work mate
Starter still seems to be struggling a bit though, was the battery a bit flat?

glad you got it running mate, the best way to check the spray bar is to pull the lead out of the coil so you have no spark then hold it cranking on the starter.

I haven't updated the blog recently because i haven't had time! But i have removed most of the gubbins under the dash and removed the heater box to get the heater motor up and running. I basically pullled it all out. Turned it by hand a dozen times and then put some electricity through it along with a little wd40 to get the motor up to speed. I have yet to refit the glove box and all the facias below the dash.
Well the starter motor is fooked so the mrs picked a new one up from the factors today and it is faultless......apart from the solinoid is on the bottom not the top. :-/
The present i also bought her for christmas arrived the other day and another problem was discovered in this never ending build up.
A nice set of samco hoses to finish off the bay as i couldn't find the standard auto choke pipes any where on the net
Problems!!!!! Wrong bloody thermostat housing. One is now on order from burtons as they are the only place that sells then. Be it at a good price too!
Samcos, reburbed rad and electric fan fitted
Stainless steel jubilees too
And the air director/sheild fitted after a slight tweeking.
Fan relay and wiring
Fan hiding all neat all 'classic' looking but a much needed modern touch to make like less stressful in the traffic.
I've had another couple of hours on the cappa today and it wasn't very productive. :-P in that time i managed to plumb up the last of the samcos get the car running breifly. Get the clock in the center console working, the fag lighter light working, the glove box light working on the switch, fitted the glove box. Fit the new thermostat housing and thermostat and last but not least the rear windsreen wiper functions. So a good fidely/slightly technical night. Not many exciting things to show but here we are.
Glive box fitted :P
Old thermostat housing which would have left a big gap for water to get out. Haha
New one that i bought from burtons and was actually happy to pay burtons price for.
New starter which is doing a great job
The engine starting and running breifly before dying for some unknown reason.

Then trying to start the engine afterwards

As you can all see the exhaust manifold coating is still intact......for now any way.
Nice work dude, sooooooo close now!

Looking good. Not much more to get it finished
To finish first, you must first finish
yeah not far now guys ust got to fit the windows front and back and some more trim on the rear quater and the doors then mot her. there are loads of fiddly bits inbetween like putting the interior back together. had her running up and the fan kicking in so it's looking good.
Just read through this thread tonight. Great work, keep the photos and info coming!
Regards David
Thanks for the reply to the thread there has been a little more progress today actually not worth putting pictures up but my mate fitted the front and rear screen today. So only a rolling road setion to get her running proper and an mot and she can be put on the road. She nearly went on the road instead of the mrs pug 106 yesterday as she has fooked yet another clutch in that! (5 in 2 1/2 years) note to self don't give the mrs 150bhp under her right foot in a tin can i can only end in tears.
Nice one Freddie like this a lot !!!!!
More progress.....and it's getting close now!
Exhaust all fitted not the best system in the world being a sportex but this one fits!
Washer lines fitted
Washer bottle and lines all plumbed up
Bought a 2.8i cappa which the mrs had the mint uncracked dash and very very tidy recaro interior
The interior all back together
Bonnet on
Decal all fitted
Bonnet fits pretty good too considering it has had a new wing, grill fitted too.
Coolent pipe clipped up
Ignition module all fitted and earthed under the coil. It's not as hidden as i would like but looks good.
Not a huge amount done today just put the recoditioned bonnet catch on and finally bolted the top struts up as they haven't been bolted to the inner wings since we have had the car
Rusty
All refurbed, painted greased and fitted
Next on the list is to repaint the windscreen wipers they don't need painted but i want them looking fresh
Another tiny update but the front wilers are now on with new blades. Really excited now as it is coming together so quickly i'm running out of things to do.
The front wipers that came off were 15" but the motorfactors insisted they were 16" so it is abit close but passes!
All shiney shiney now!
