    Adam's Mk1 1100 2door

    Alright guys,

After buying this shell when I was 17, it will now finally be getting some time and love lavished on it now that my Cossie (New thread soon) is all but done . This car is/was an 1100L which I bought as a bare shell whilst I was at college years ago and although very little has been done since and after nearly letting it go a couple of times during this period I've always wanted one and knew if I sold it I wouldn't get another.

After owning it for a year or so it had some work done on it to an awful standard by supposed professionals. I lost the love for it after that for a time but then started to have a go myself with some fairly good, but albeit time consuming, results...all was going well. Then the Cossie came along.
Fast forward 2.5 years and the Cos passed its MOT yesterday So today Jules and I Trekked off down to Weston Super Mare today to visit James at South West Resto's with the Escort in tow.

Jules took some before photos on his phone and will put them up shortly, hopefully then followed by James progress.

The plan is re-hungfront end, full strut tops, front mex arches welding on, cage mounts, heel plate, front O/S floor and some other little jobs which will come together over the next few weeks.

The plan is to get it back, dry build the important parts, paint it diamond white along side my brothers Mk2 (POJ) and build it into a nice usable 1600 x/flow powered escort with a few nice little bits but basically just nice and simple.Hopefully the plan doesn't deviate too much from this as time goes by.

Thoroughly look forward to seeing it all come together.

    Cheers

    Evening all,
    Day one!
The old girl has had top bulkhead panels fitted but not very well, Adam had already removed this side,

Got to weld all these holes up!

Made a start on the new bulkhead lip that was missing!

All trimmed up and a bit of zinc/weld through primer,

Ta Da! butt welded on with a bit of etch,

That's all for today, thanks for looking,
    Cheers,
    James

    Re: Adam's Mk1 1100 2door

    Morning all,
Time for a long over due update!
First up, removed drivers side top bulkhead panel to give me a bit better access,

    The floor/footwell needs some attention,

    Chopping out the roughness!

Floor pan welded in so I can start on the foot well,

    Previous repairs,

    Foot well out,

    All fixed,

    Bit more in a mo,
    Thanks for looking,
    Cheers,
    James

    Re: Adam's Mk1 1100 2door

    Evening all,
    Got another day in,
Had some issues when it came to fitting the drivers side full length strut top,

As can be seen the cup has been replaced and is in completely the wrong place, also not fitted very well,

Only one thing to do, chop it out!

Managed to save the cup and put a couple of spot welds on to hold it together till the RS strut top goes on, Will need some new verticals but atleast its in the right place now!

Starting to look like an Escort again!

    That it for now,
    Thanks for looking,
    Cheers,
    James

I knew some of the previous repairs left a lot to be desired but i didn't think it had been fudged so badly on that side. It looked OK from the top, just glad you've unearthed it.

    Scary really,

It looked good (ish) from the top. Once the tops off though it looks like theres only a few tacks holding all that side together and also looks as if someones done a good job of butchering the uprights!!

Will be nice to know its sound under there though.

    Morning all,
    Continuing on from last time,
Verticals welded in, bit of a mare as the old ones where seam welded, got there in the end!

Bonnet hinges welded on and bonnet fitted,

    Front panel and slam off,

    All back on!

Starting to look like a car again!
    Thanks for looking,

    Re: Adam's Mk1 1100 2door

    Evening all,
Started of the day by fitting the RS strut top plate,

Followed by the strengthener and wing mounting rail fillet,

Then it all went a bit wrong!
When the car arrived it had one wing fitted, no bonnet etc, to cut along story short I spent all day fitting the wing, the gaps where all over the place, luckily I have other wings that I can try for fitment, anyway got there in the end, but did beat my head against the wall a fair few times!

Not quite as far forward, but tomorrow's another day!
    Thats all for now,
    Thanks for looking,
    Cheers,
    James

    Re: Adam's Mk1 1100 2door

    Evening all,
First up today, a bit of trimming req to the wing,

To make it look like this,

On to the N/S, RS strut top on,

Followed by the strengthener and fillet,

Time to fit the wing, door gap was not brilliant, door has had previous repairs and overlapped the sill edge,

Gave it a quick tickle with the grinder and welder to make the gaps better,

    Mex lip on,

The old girl finally has a face again!

    Thats all for now,
    Thanks for looking,
    Cheers,

    Evening all,
Another good day, so close to the finish now,
Made up some cage plates and welded in,

Heel plate had been butchered, Adam bought a nice new shiney one!

    Looks better,

    With some X braces,

New seat X members and cage in,

All that is left to do tomorrow is sort out the firewall ready for Adam to collect Saturday,
    Thanks for looking,
