    Re: 6900 miles away Escort MK1 Restoration !!!

    Thank you comrade!
    Well, plans have been changing, first it was going to be a standard Kent 1600cc with 244 kent cams, but an opportunity came and i bought a zetec st170.
    This opportunity appeared in Barcelona and has arrived in Uruguay this week!!
    Suggestions and ideas are very wellcome, so, now i am gathering parts, now i have:
    * Zetec ST170 engine (found it in Barcelona!)
    * Dave´s Retroford complete kit
    * T9 5 speed gearbox from a Ford Sierra (found it here in town)
    * Bilstein Sport shock absorbers: MK2 front (cause I´ve been told MK2 front suspension can held vented brake discks) & MK1 rear
    * Floflex polybushes

    here some other pics while disassemble and after sandblasted, fortunately no serious issues to deal with:

    Think you might struggle to get 9x13 under standard arches on a standard axle as well ,,,
    Even if you roll and stretch the arch !!!!!! Very nice wheels though

    And a lot of good fabrication going to your mk1 to bring it back to life ,, do I spy a few escorts in the back ground

    you can run 8" rims in a mk1 escort but you will need an anglia van english axle like me. If you want so pics let me know. By the way i'm very impressed with the work you are carrying out it looks all top notch.

    some pics could be helpful, thank you freddy, however, here in Uruguay there are no Anglias , I´ll need to deal with standard english axle being narrowed.... seems to be a challenge!!!

    Great work so far!

    You will have to narrow the axle to get anything wider than 7" wheels to fit, if you want to fit 9" you will probably have to tub the rear arches.

    Re: 6900 miles away Escort MK1 Restoration !!!

    I thought the wheels were 13x7" in size

    Well my 8j wheels fit in the arches with loads of room! I don't know why people say it is some impossible all the time.

    I think it looks sweet as in this picture!

    I stole all these from my thread. Basically from shaft flange to shaft flange the escort engilish axle is 53" where as the anglia van one is 50" moving the wheels in by 1.5" a side and that pust them in the center of the wheel arch with 0.5"/.75" of space either side of the tyre with 205/60/13's on. But like you have been told in one of the other posts 9j takes tubbing of the arches as 8j at standard height is a squeeze.

    Well, my project started with 7x13 superlite, but now with this bbs 9x13 i will need to work arround arches due to your suggestions, wheels will arrive next week and y will be able to figure out how to fit them. I´ve been looking for arches, and I decided this ones:

    Anyone know how fabricate this ones? as you can see they are not the usual bubble arches, I will appreciate if anybody can tel me where to buy them:

    I'm pretty sure those pics are of the RSR escort, which is a spaceframe chassis with a fibreglass bodyshell over the top.

    To my knowledge you can't buy those arches.

    hi matey! i am so jelous of those wheels they look amazing, in my opinion what ever it takes to fit them you need to do. or if not sale them to me! they will set the car off a treat
    ive got 8" wheels and fitted 205/60/13s and they were fine so can say 215/50/13 should be able to fit to a 9 inch wheel

    With arches you will easily fir you wheels. I have 8.5 inch wheels under standard non arched guards and I dont think you would be able to get any wider without cutting the wheel tubs. Are you going to change the PCD wheel stud pattern to BMW or do you have new centres?

    I like your collection of parts and they way this project is heading

    Well, I´ve taken my car to mk1.com.uy team (TS sponsor) and they are doing a great job, some pics attached, some welding upgrading, rear turrets fiting, and front adjustable seat kit...
