    Peugeot 206 silhouette race car

So after spending the last couple of years building a toyota starlet to race in the qmn i have had a massive change of plan. I was offered a deal for the starlet by a mate for his silhouette race car. Like most on here that build cars i put a massive amount of love, hours, brain ache and internet searching into it so to never race it was hard. After some serious pondering though i decided it was a good move.

These cars make up the majority of the Intermarque series that runs along side the qmn and the tintops. It seems to be gathering interest with a few more drivers coming over from the national hot rods that most of these cars were originally used for.
The plan is to do the last couple of meetings this year and then pull it apart over the winter for a bit of tidying and a repaint.

    I like that, a lot.

    You could Hillclimb it too

Out of interest what will it weigh when finished?

Yeah got a fresh xe going in, should be on the rollers in a couple of weeks. The plan is to be ready for rockingham on Oct 6 so i guess i will find out how competitive i am

They are bringing in some rules for next year to limit the budget needed, like using a contract tyre and restricting the number used.

The minimun weight limit with driver is 830kg.

    Thanks for the nice comments

The time is nearly here for my first race at rockingham on oct 6!

I did a test day at brands a couple of weeks ago so i had some idea how the car drove, but i guess its gonna be a steep learning curve once the flag drops!

I think theres a few people on here that race in the tin tops that are also racing so come and say hi if you are up there.

Cheers, im just gonna use the two meetings left this year to feel my way in. Id be happy just to finish all the races and come home with a smile on my face.

I think you're right, 50 sec laps would get you in the top 3, so thats def the time to aim for. I was doing 54s during testing so need to find a bit to be properly on the pace. Hopefully it will come with a bit more time in the car, some new tyres and a bit of fiddling here and there.

Its a national hot rod spec as i believe any more would put me in the silhouette class.

I have hoosiers at the mo, but I have heard Avons are gonna be the contract tyre for next year. I need to find out exactly what the crack is before i buy any.

Cheers Nick, as you can imagine i was pretty nervous as it was my first race on a circuit. I managed to qualify 16th from a grid of 23 so was pretty pleased with that.

The first race started well and and after a few laps i felt like i was starting to push a bit harder. Unfortunately, on lap 6, someone massively outbreaked themselves into the first hairpin and i was hit from behind, which spun me onto the grass. This left me with too much damage to continue so my race was over.

Fortunately we were able to repair the car enough to get out for the 2nd race and it was far less eventful! I managed to finish 13th which i was pretty happy with.

Apart from the obvious i had an excellent day and cant wait for Brands hatch on Nov 4.

Cheers Sam, at least it wasnt the escort that got bent!

Thanks, really looking forward to brands. Apparently they are expecting a large crowd and full grids so should be really good.

I raced hot rods with for a few years, but apart from a couple of sprints in the escort ive not done anything competitive for about 5 years.

Re: Peugeot 206 silhouette race car

Its the first meeting of the season next weekend at brands hatch so i thought would do a quick update. After a very wet brands in november i decided to strip the car over the winter. The idea was to properly repair the damage from rockingham, give it a respray and generally tidy everything up, hopefully losing a bit of weight along the way. The winter seemed to go very quickly once the car was in bits but i think ive managed to do most of what i wanted.

Re: Peugeot 206 silhouette race car

It was a bit of a mixed meeting for me at Brands on sunday. As well as new paint i had changed quite a lot on the car over the winter, and as i didnt manage to get any testing done, i wasnt really sure what the car was going to be like. Unfortunately despite a pair of brand new silencers i was pulled up after qualifying as being too noisy. This left me an hour to try and quieten it down before the first race, which i wasnt able to do. Frustrating as i had done my best ever lap time!
With a bigger silencer fitted and noise test passed i managed to get out for the second race, but had to start off the back after a dns in the first. I had a reasonable race and finished 12th but ended up circulating on my own for most of i it which wasnt ideal. I still need to gain a bit of pace but hopefully that will come with an improved set up and a bit more practice.

Despite being on your own you were lapping well and pulling well clear of the car behind (which you overtook a few laps in) but by the time you were past him the rest of the field had left you unfortunately! One thing I noticed was on left handers either tyre or oil smoke from the osr arch area, may be the tyre catching slightly? Nice to meet you anyway and good luck for the other rounds, it looks like a good championship to race in and very fast times from the front runners!

Could be the 1/2 shaft bearing leaking oil onto the disc.

Nice to meet you Dave. Sorry i was a bit busy when you came over, i still thought i might make the first race then! You're right about the right rear rubbing, i think i had the rear a bit soft. It ruined the tyre unfotunately so thats something i can change for next time.

This is the first year the series has had championship status and it seems to be getting a bit more interest so im happy to be involved.

Hopefully you're right Jezz and my lap times will come down as the season goes on.

No problem mate i could see you were flat out and didnt want to distract you too much! At least you know what the issue is, shame its wrecked the tyre though! It was quite funny to watch, pretty much every car in the race was bottoming out on the skirts/floor in the dip after paddock! Still cant get over the lap times though, got to be one of the fastest circuit cars per £

The fastest times in qualifying were just in the 49s which is staggering considering i think a touring car does 48s round there. The pace seems to be quicker than ever this year.
