Slight change of plan tonight the MSA insist that you have a catch tank to sit on the sump guard so we knocked one up tonight ready for welding

But we couldn't be arsed with keep emptying it

It looks good just the base plate to be welded to the bottom and away we go

Another job started front floor repair

Re: Mk2 X-Pack to Tarmac Arched MK 2

Bit more done on the old girl

Front floor sections starting to take shape

Near side repaired with a bit of primer on it's not concourse but with a bit of two pack it will be fine but hey it's a rally car

Just started the door shut repair, cut the rust out and make a repair section simple yea right !!!

The new bit to go in

    Now welded in

What it looks like with the new sill over the top

    Rear section

    Front section

Bit of a clean up at the front and it will be ready to stitch in

HUX !!! before you get too far in why don't you self tapper screw the sill on and try a door make sure it is all good???? reason why the mk1 that was done by mick the sill wasn't deep enough ? had to add 7mm into the step to make it the same as the door with a seal on it and aligned with the 1/4 & wing the sill was miles in!

Not much of an update but we have some new shiny bits been doing all sorts of other things at the mo so the old girl has taken a sideline for a mo

Starting to fit the cage and have run into problems with the front legs of the cage are miles out so we are off to custom cages with the car Friday to get it sorted hopefully !

That's not good then Paul, did you buy the cage with the ends profiled? Will they fit the whole cage for you now?

Re: Mk2 X-Pack to Tarmac Arched MK 2

So she was wrapped up ready for it's trip to custom cages on Friday to sort out a few issues we had with the cage

It turns out the the measurements they gave us were wrong so they had to remake a few tubes for us they also profiled some of the tubes for us to make a start at least we have a front section of cage that now fits I would have loved to get them to fit it but I'm not that rich lol

The door bars need a little fettle but it's getting there now

The front splash panel has a foofing great hole in it for the front triangulation to go through !!!

Paul the cage comes ready to fit !!!! With the ends profiled with some fettling to do ;-) I wished they would have said we will fit it for free :-)

To be fair we are dragging our heals a bit but the time constraints with work and other commitments and the like we are getting there, it won't be a concourse car but it will a nice well sorted car with some of the wright bits on it

But a least we had a pattern to do the RHS of the car now

    Looking good.

Do you know if Custom Cages have remedied the problem on their jigs so future cages fit better? Just wondering as im thinking of ordering one soon.

Was yours the full cage in cds or the basic clubman one that you've added bars to?

most cage makers are crap unless the cage is made and fitted by them they all need some fettling an omp bolt in cage we had to cut all the feet off as it was too tall to fit in the mk1 escort did check with them and cage was correct but it was 35mm ish too tall

i had some problems fitting my multi point cage into my mk2. bars to long, profiles all out of line, and i also had a problem with the front legs being out of line. managed to solve all but what a pain in the backside, considering the cost of these cages i think a better job could be done with the fitting.

Right we are getting towards the goal posts with the cage just done a few more bits on it, mock up of the diagonals and fitted the sleeve in the worlds largest transmission tunnel fitted to a Escort Mk2 this is for the Rear lower tunnel brace then it will be off to custom cages to be welded in
