    Gareth's MK2 rally car

At last ive had a chance to use the car so 3 events and 3 separate issues but i guess that development.

1st event Dale stages in Pembroke we left very disappointed after snapping a rose joint on the lower link arm which also destroyed the propshaft. car back home and a quick check over revealed the joints were s**t and id have been better with chocolate. 4 new 5/8 rose joints of the best quality i could buy and a quick trip to barprop and she was ready to go again. Back to Dale and some private testing and the car felt great, an oil leak ended the day early but we went home very happy. Got the car home put a new rear crank seal in and we were good to go.

2nd event was Glyn memorial stages Anglesey, first few stages were spent going very sideways Indysport molded slicks on the rear i would highly recommend them to anyone going drifting !!!!! We were having fun so we really didnt mind. we threw a set of dunlops on and it made the world of difference into the dark stages and with the dark came some rain ans we were waiting to go on stage we went from over steer to under steer but with the 8th stage over and car back in service we were happy, and even with all the fun we were lying 6th in class 18th OA.
Day 2 weather was dry and sunny and off we went up to 5th in class, Start of stage 12 and the fuel rail cracked and was leaking badly with some silver tape to stop it spraying over the engine off we went, 3/4 way around the stage hairpin left 50 hairpin right we had a big bang and no drive (straight away i thought prop shaft). We managed to roll on the grass and well out of the way out the car and we had a look prop was hanging down but the prop wasn't damaged, the pinion had sheered.

Back home and axle stripped crown wheel and pinion destroyed and in the process it had damaged the LSD casing. I had no choice new cw&p and diff ive gone down the gripper route all back together and test load the car back on the trailer.

3rd event the following weekend AMC Stages carmarthen showground. As we waited to go onto the stage cars were coming out covered in mud and damaged left right and center, (note to self take it easy) off we went cautiously first corner hairpin left down the box hit the brakes car goes straight on quick tug on the handbrake got us going in the rite direction. It was like driving on black ice very slippery all day on the grass twice saw us being pushed by the marshals to get us going again. 3rd stage we found out the chicane (big bales) was narrower than i thought and flat in 3rd i caught the rear arch, stage 4 throttle cable broke at peddle end i managed to pull cable through bulkhead and operate it by hand cut route to finish. New cable on in service and off we went 7th Stage through a building only part of the stage that was dry a big bang and no drive (immediate thoughts better not be my new cw&p) looked under the car propshaft UJ broken.

I assume it got damaged when the diff went the previous weekend, we got towed back to service put spare pro on and al was good but the day was over so on the trailer and home we went.

Roll on end of December for xmas stages a finish is on the cards.

    Gareth,
Your car is low at the back. Similar set up to how Steve Bannister has his, as I noted watching the Roger Albert Clark at the weekend!

Nice write up there Gareth. I did the same 3 events as you did. CO-driver for Dale and Anglesey but drove the Pug on the AMC Stages.. as you said, very slippery. Not had the best of luck so far have you, hopefully Pembrey on Sunday goes better for you. I'll be there speccying or on the spanners.
