    Re: Darrian S2000

I've finally setup the S2000 2,4ltr on the dyno. 2x Weber 50DCO. Not fully tuned yet because customer want to use the car more like a "daily" and that's clearly not possible with these big 50mm carbs so I gave up. In a few weeks I'll get it back on the dyno with throttle bodies. Must say, I was very pleased with the extra torque. Normal 2ltr S2000 engine make no torque at all. Due to the extreme long rods compared to the stroke. Now the stroke is much longer (99mm and rods a lot shorter).

I would agree a pair of 50's don't really work with driving on the road !
    Interesting stuff tho

Mine is mostly going backwards! decided the power steering was to much in the way so its been moved up and turned around so the baulk of it is now well out of the way behind the dash.

The rear frame has been removed and is being redesigned presently.
New brake caliper mounts are done.

    Re: Darrian S2000

Dyno tested last week. Yes, date on the graph is the date you print the power plot. In my case, because of a computer error, all graphs have the same date because every time I fire up this old PC on the dyno it start again at 1999. I just never get older. Sorry for this error.

I will try to find a Power graph from a 2 Ltr engine using ITB's and plot it over this graph. You will see the 2ltr S2000 is no match for this engine. It's also better to compare power figures because Standard S2000 on my dyno only make approx 220 Bhp. With ITB's max approx 235Bhp. I don't want to go into a discussion about measuring power but my dyno read lower compared to some others.

    Re: Darrian S2000

Yes I know what you mean about different dyno's!
But like you say the 2ltr was done on the same equipment then that's good for accurate comparison.

What exhaust manifold have you got on these engines ?

    Re: Darrian S2000

Indeed, same dyno, same setup, same way of testing. So I feel you can compare with confidence.

Standard S2000 exhaust. Nothing wrong with this manifold. The rest of the exhaust system is MK2 Ford big bore from Ashley (was hanging around here). The 2Ltr was tested with a purpose made exhaust. After we did a lot of exhaust testing using an adjustable manifold (any length, any size). These tests where done I think at least 8 years ago. At the moment, I'm in a process of ordering the OBX manifold. No idea it has nay sense.

Where the 2ltr had enough with original camshaft (at least for autocross) this 2,4 ltr is crying for more camshaft. I can easy kick in the high cam at 3000 RPM and already gain power. But oil pressure is to low. So I switch at 3500 RPM and if you look well at the graph you can see the start of the extra power. Where the power of the low profile in a 2000 Ltr does not even fade away at 6600 RPM (no gain with high cam), here you can see the torque going down between 3000 and 3500 RPM. With 38mm chokes it was even more visual.

    Re: Darrian S2000

I've plot the 2,4 Ltr over a 2 Ltr. Must say, the 2 Ltr was not finished, it missed some power at top (you can see the dip just at approx 8000 RPM). Later on this dip was corrected. No idea anymore what is was but it made approx 235 Bhp. Unfortunately, I've got a data base of over 600 engines, finding back what you want after 8 years is not so easy anymore. I was hoping I could find more finished 2 ltr engines.

But you can clearly see the big difference in torque between both engines. The 2,4 Ltr is clearly crying for a faster camshaft but please don't forget it's a very long stroke engine. Running 9000 RPM is very tuff for the bottom end.

Very nice Paul. I've seen the pics on Facebook. Are you still working on it or are the Weavers doing a bit to it?

We can make air boxes for the S2000 :coo

    Hi Paul,
Yes Neil Weavers on it now he's making good steady progress .. I'm just desperate to get it done so I can play in the new year !

Room is at a premium I am thinking about air boxes but the way it looks initially I shall run as is.. what shape / dimensions are your boxes ? Have you done any dyno work with them ?

No we haven't done any dyno work with them. But my no technical head says it depends on the engine builder as to whether they like them or not!

Keep up the good work, you're nearly there now

With the trouble it's been im not sure my mind will accept it until I'm on the start is SS1

If I do go for an air box I will give you a shout to discuss.

    Re: Darrian S2000

If you want to fit an air box that does not restrict your engine it should be very big, something like 15 liters or even more.

The nice looking trumpets you have fitted, not so sure these are going to make real power. When I was testing these engines years ago I come up with straight tubes. I just can't remember anymore is was 48 or 50 mm but should be somewhere in my files. For sure not 55 mm and no full radius as these ones. Same for the total length, must be somewhere in the files.

Last engine was on 50 DCO throttle bodies but it was 2400 cc and we did not do much test work.

A little lost in translation maybe.. But yes the dyno will tell us how good or not good the engine is !

Good plan, many things I can already tell you in advance. Save yourself the time and money I've lost on these engines. These trumpets do not work so well as they look like and airbox will have to be huge. So now you only have to test the rest.
