Cheers for the info dude, ... which smiths fuel gauge was that? does it work with the original sender?

Holden Vintage use to do the correct colour warning lamps (the 31mm for IGN & OIL), but discontinued them now, only carrying green/blue stock, retro uk have some listed on their website but they are crazy money.

Re: Fridgemans Twin Cam called "marmite"

i have fitted those as a tempory, stage 1 hopefully will be getting some of the originals remade at some point. fuel gauge i have used a fuel cell with a dipstick type sender and one of those clever boxes thats fully adjustable to most types of gauge. [off flea bay] you should be able to fit it on a std tank. and i found retro uk unhelpful .

soon be time to start getting this lot sorted and put together. BRM twin cam belonging to the car but badly damaged years ago by droping a valve. head now repaired but block needs liners and a new set of pistons, runs phase 4 cams so should scream a bit.steel crank and rods, steel main caps to hold it together. nice to have if i need to put it back as it was and loose a bit of power.

After my coffee inspection today, to sum it up not much to do now after all its MOTd & silly little details that need finishing like connecting the rev counter cable......a big job mark if you need a hand you know where I am.
Actually I cannot praise the standard of finish on this car enough, paint work is superb with hardly any filler used on the shell a credit to your brothers work not a ripple on any panel.
Then there is the engine, I cannot wait to hear that beauty on full chat.
All you require now is a dry sunny day to try her out.

    Well done.

Re: Fridgemans Twin Cam called "marmite"

My old man used EDH6H on the equivalent of the British Rally Championship back in 1971 and it is the Circuit of Ireland livery from that year that Fridgeman has replicated on the rebuild. He has kept me updated over the last two years on progress and I have a pretty good idea of the amount of work and detail that has gone into the project. The pics look absolutely stunning and Mark should be very proud of the end result. I only wish my memory as an impressionable 11/12 year old back in '71 could have been of more use for the detail but the exterior looks just like the pictures from back then that I have. I have my fingers crossed that he might be able to put the original BRM engine back together, but even if he doesn't it is still an amazing bit of kit. Well done Mark, and good luck with your next project, whatever that might be....did I tell you that my Dad used to rally a Cortina Mk1 1500GT, 4 door in maroon, reg no ELF239C....??????

    Regards, Tim Edwards

thanx for the kind words tim, i told you i would do it yes its has been a mammoth task but i have had some top blokes on the job so no to bad .the BRM engine will go back in one day but was in a terrible state, it had droped a valve damaging the head ,piston and bore that was about worn out anyway. So the heads been repaired and the block will be after x/mas,then will we will start the rebuild. next year tim contact me and come down for a ride round in it as i promised you and some pictures with the car.

    Hello gents
I have just seen this thread while looking at pics of historic rally cars on Google....(I know, sad isn't it)
Am I right in thinking that this car is registration EDH 6H?
If so I owned and competed in it in 1975 to 1977 (ish, it's a long time ago...)
I remember it well and really enjoyed it although I ran it with a 1600 xflow
Sadly I had to sell it in 1977 to pay the bank..sold it for £750!
If its of any interest I could probably find some period photos and I certainly remember quite a lot of detail about the build.
Looks great by the way, better than when I owned it when it was blue & orange with Morris Leggett & Co on the side!

Re: Fridgemans Twin Cam called "marmite"

Ok here's a quick summary of my brief ownership of EDH6H:
I bought the car in 1975 from City Speed in Gloucester, for £800 if I remember rightly. The Twin cam engine had been replaced with a standard 1600GT xflow and the interior was now pretty much standard Mexico but otherwise it seemed to be pretty much as Broadspeed built it (their build plate was still on the bulkhead) so it had things like world cup crossmember and inboard turrets (which were already out of favour...), inboard brake and fuel lines, twin tanks, heated screen and so on.
I did a couple of road rallies in it to get used to driving it and realised that a)the front struts were past there best and b) it was a bit underpowered for stage rallies...
My plan was to do as many events as possible in the BTRDA and Castrol-Autosport championships so I fitted some World Cup Bilstiens and built a tuned 1600 xflow and campaigned it as a Mexico.
If I remember rightly we did the Dukeries (ran out of petrol and missed a stage start), the Mintex (where the back screen popped out after landing on one of the big jumps), the Plains (brilliant!), the Castrol and the Bass Charrington (retired wounded) plus a few non-championship events in Wales. The car was super reliable, our only retirement came when we hit a farm rut particularly hard on the Bass and broke a front strut!
My last event in the car was the Tour of Loton where we finished 9th overall I think, the rally was won by Dave Grainger in a real Twin Cam who I think was Welsh Rally Champion at the time.
It was all great fun but sadly by then I had a substantial overdraft so the car had to go. It was bought by a rally car breaker from the Machynlleth area but I can't remember his name although it might come back to me.

I will try and post some photos, I am sure I have some but I have to find them!
Where is the car now by the way? I would be very interested to see it again.
    Dave
