Some more pictures of the mark 2.
Been workin on the rear end lately, to get it as low as posible.

Something like this it will be when its finished..

So i had to cut out a lot of metal, and make some new chasi rails

The 4 link boxes was modified, an mounted higer than normal

New tunnel for the rear axel

Almost finished, the hard work is done

Under, there is now god rom for exhaust and rear axel

And have started on a litle exhaust tunnel, and started welding all the new metal. Some progres but it takes time .

Re: From Rallycross car to GT4 Racing Escort RWD "G3"

    Hello

Have started preping for next session. The new rules for 2015 says i can remove 50 kg off the car, the new weigth in my class whit my Escort is 1050 kg with me in it.

Here are some things that i have done to save weigth so far.

Got crazy with the drill and grinder and of to the painter

Did the same here The "suspension" on the hatch (dont know what you cal it?) wil be remowed too.

Unbolted some extra weigth / ballast (metal plates) i had to drive whit before.

Made a new crossmember for the stering rack an saved 3 kg on that alone, also moved it further backwards. Remowed some off the old brackets in the front and saved 4 kg there to.

Also picked up some new fiberglass today, just to have as spare, wil get the rear arches also soon.

A bit wider than the orginal Gartrac items, 26 cm on the widest part

Also did take a big service on the pedal box and rest of the brake system, only 83 days left and so meny smal things to be done

Re: From Rallycross car to GT4 Racing Escort RWD "G3"

    Hi there.

Time for som update, been working on the old Escort lately before seasion start.

Have made up som new steering parts and fited them. Also whith corsa epas, wich transformed the car to the beter

    And new ligther steering arms

    Finished

Also made an new exhaust system whit new silencher, was not quite happy whith the new silencher, 107db at 4500rpm is 7db to loud.

New wider wheels for next race 29-31 mai. Upp from 8" to 10" at the rear, stil on 8" at the front.
Will be runing 265 at the rear and 235 at the front for the next race.

New rear tyre to the left

Made up an new splitter also, bigger than the last one, did work fine last race weekend.

A litle film from the first start upp couple off weeks ago

    https://youtu.be/c89N-SMdKuA

Controlled the studs and clearence before we went for a training at the race track

    Off to training on wets

Things did work fine on training, it was good to drive the car after 7 monts.

So it was ready for its first race this year, i was wery nervus, woud the new steering parts hold?

The car performed nice all weekend, but the break line from the pedal box to the rear did break and was leaking, so the rear breakes did not perform wery good, i first tougth it was the fluid holder that was leaking, so changed that first.

I won the first race on saturdag, and won the first race on sunday and won the last race also that day, it was a great race weekend
I coud not belive it, the Escort was werry happy to i guies, showing the modern car that it was more than just an old car

My team mate in the Altezza did good to and did get 2 second places

Did not have camera in the car this weekend but here are some from the other cars.

Both from heat 2 on sunday.

Hello, Love the car and other projects that you have on.

I compete in tarmac and forestry stage rallying in Ireland in a Mk2. Ive been offered a Esslinger American Pinto, and was wondering could you answer a few Qs on them for me.

First of all how does it compare in weight and size to the european Pinto wit a 205 block.

Secondly does a type 9 bellhousing fit it.

Thanks for any help that you could give me,

    Best regards

    Hi

The Eslinger / US pinto whith the Alu head is approximately the same wheigt as the European ohc. Whith an alu block aswel you wil save ca 30 kg more. And the whole engine will weight approximately 120 kg. And yes the t9 wil bolt right on. Give Esslinger a call they are really helpful. I would go for the arca head as this gives 15 to 20 % more effect than the Alu head I am using due to raised ports.

Here are some films from my last races this year. I finished 2.nd in my class this year. The engine is now out an being rebuilt after 16 hours on full

Can you please give me som info on the early axle as it looks like one I have in a 1300GT that came from France, and I have been told they are weak and cannot take HP.

    Hi there James

Almost all Escorts in Norway did come whith the Køln axel (exept the Rs and sport) We have experienced that the køln is as strong as the Bajo axel, but its harder to find LSD fore it. We found out if you weld them befor abusing it they can take alot off punishment. I ran Køln on one of my old Escorts and it did work werry fine. Also have a mte who have been using the Køln fore a 5 year period whith 186hp Ohc in auto slalom and track days only snapped one shaft once.

Pictures of my old Escort whith Køln ( miss this one)

As fore the black Escort, it used to have a 240 Volvo axel, but i swaped it fore the vider 940 Volvo axel.

Here you can se the mk2 whit 240 axel (10/17 et35) Was not happy whit that so svapped over the 940 axel from the Black Escort

    Her whit the 940 axel ( 10/17 et15)

    The 940 axel

    Mate excellent work.... Well done,
Quick note for u, u don't need such a heavy cross member if you are only supporting the steering rack.... You could mount straight bar across inner chassis strips and drop bits down to position rack( would be way lighter again)
Something I noticed from another car I saw..... Just a thought,

I like what you are saying about the Koln axle . all I need is a LSD and details how to strengthen. I will need for my 1300GT that will have max 170HP BDA or (twin cam)
any ideas where to get a LSD to suit.
13in fitted with 6" minilites mainly for road use.
    Thanks for you response.

Hi The cross member also holds the wish bones here, but i totaly agree whith you , A mate of me is a welder so we have been talking abaut welding up one in alu and save some weigth in the front. it looks heavy this cross member, but its ligther than a WC Cross member, but it wil be changed in the end to ligter

Hi the black Escort did start to crack in the flore betwen the 4 link box and the main beam/cage the last session. (maybe becaus the 4 link boxes wasent supported by the cage?? or becaus i had 30 kg ballast there) Not much just a couple of centimeters. Not bad fore a car that have been used in motorsport fore 18 years. It`s now sold, hopefully it wil be used in anger agen

Yes im stil building the Mk2 Cuttsy

Finnished making the moulds fore the front so i started on the rear end so the spare wheel place fits the new arches.

And at last a alu sheet to lock it up.

This new panels wil also form an tunnel under the car so its easyer to fit the planed difusor. Next side tomorow.

    Time fore som quick updates.

Needed more space fore the Webers. Even if the engine is sitting 5cm more over to the rigth side.
    Fired up the grinder.

    ended up like this

Had wrong vinkle on the tca and steering arms, and did not want to space down the tca som much at the strut end to get it rigth. so i moved it al up. and now the tca sits 11cm higer up in the car than normal

    form the side

    It wil be realy low

Welded up some solid mouting fore the corsa steerring ( was tired of the steering wheel moving when i was driving.

    Quite happy with the position

    Finished the new fire wal

And strated on the rest to mach

Thats it fore now, slow but it s going forward.... , most of the time goes to thinking, and not so much progres :/
