Talking Hello there from wannabe RS owner!!

    Hi everyone,

Just joined up as currently considering buying a 1989 Series 2 Escort RS Turbo. I have always fancied one and now have the opportunity to buy one from a lad down the road who's selling his!

Has anyone got any hints or tips regarding condition or things i should look for? This particular one is white, seems fairly standard, 91k on the clock and has had 11 previous owners! The guy wants £2000, is that reasonable?!

    Cheers in advance!!

    Danny

    Buy a series 1, that's a proper rs turbo.

Good advice, I'm taking along my mate on Saturday. He owned a few XR3is and an RS back in the day and has just restored a Triumph so i'll see what he says! Just been informed there's no history....!

    Hi Danny,

Have you tried joining a local RS owners club or forum? sometimes the members will recognise the cars?

For £2k you'll be looking for a rock solid example, byuy on condition rather than mods

I've had my series 2 ERST for 7years and its great fun

usual places to check are front panel below the headlights where the front bumper bolts on, front cross member, battery tray, around fuse box, bottom of the 'A' panels where they meet the footwells (if the buyer will let you lift the carpets) and the sills near the seat belt mounts, open the sunroof and check around the roof frame, investigate the arches underneath the kit, check all the chassis rails (especially the rear rails where they curve upward over the rear suspension) and the boot floor around the rear wheel tubs and the aft edges....

apart from all that I hope its a good un

Re: Hello there from wannabe RS owner!!

    hello,

took a wee look and had a wee drive. It drives really well but when we got back the oil filler cap had popped off! I'd never seen this before! Also, there was a quite a hot smell but again not sure where this was from but the coolant was very low/empty (temperature dials all read normal).

Bodywork wise, it looks good, apart from a bit of rust below the windscreen. Both sills have been replaced and according to the MOT history it looks like it'd been off the road more or less 6 years and most fails were due to extensive corrosion but it passed last time out. It has been extensively undersealed now too!

    Amy thoughts?! Ha ha!!

    Cheers!

I dont think your going to get a decent rs turbo for 2 grand, dont buy the 1st one you see, try to view as many as possible and ideally buy one from a member in the rsoc, one that's had no expense spared and looked after, id still buy a s1 though.

Ok, I will have a look! I have been told there is a decent garage in Kirkcaldy that would know the score so may see if they'll take a look at this one as well! It's a bloody minefield!! Cheers again!
