S2000 Dry Sump Pump Sizing - any technical info out there?
I've an S2000 engine in an escort. I've some issues with the air pump and with the dry sump pump. Bottom line, when it switches to the big cam (at ~6000rpm) the oil pressure drops like a stone (to ~50psi). It's quite scary the first time it does it!
Looking at the Honda specs, the original flows ~58L/min @ 85Psi @ 6000rpm.
Also looking at the Honda specs the VTEC should see 57Psi while it's on.
Talking to my pump manufacturer, my pump should flow more like 35L/min at 6K engine RPM. So the problem seems obvious. Unfortunately I've built the car around it now, so it's major surgery whatever I do. I'm also wondering if it's not making the second cam (and that's why it's so lacklustre).
I'm an automotive design engineer by trade. I've done some thinking on this and will be happy to share info with like minded souls - technical content only thouh please guys. (Sorry I'm bored of wading through idiot content on the skwhatever site.)
Buyer beware though - My best guess today is that this Honda needs a pump the size of the moon. There are kits on sale, advertised to suit, that are not the size of the moon!!

Just a thought, Is the pump getting enough oil, are the bores of the oil lines big enough to carry enough oil to the dry pump from your dry sump setup at high rev's? i am keeping my wet sump and have increased my sump to carry an extra liter of oil. a pump is designed to push oil not suck it.
