given???? as in free???
Yeah! It's not as good as it sounds though! Lol. Here she is.
I am in the middle of claiming the logbook for her too as she's tax exempt
I will be grabbing as much of the van as possible so if i ever decide to sell her it will be a proper sale of a rusty shitter with a tax exempt logbook and not a logbook sale.
flippin eck!!! it'll polish out
Well back on track now as i have had an hour up there today just sorting 'stuff' out and i have been buying some goodies which i shouldn't have.
A nice ally tank and stand of Zakham engineering. It's brilliant quality and at a competitive price!
I also bough some carbon kevlar light protectors off the net and i had wished i had stuck with the ally ones as i'm going to have to trim them so they are at the very best just square. A good poduct that has been rushed and spoilt.
I have also bough some sabbet 6 point harnesses that are to say the least a little weather beaten. And a mudflap set from peter lloyd. Themudaps are red so it won't lookgreat but they will serve a purpose as the tyres throw up alot of stones and my mate don't like to come for drives with me any more.
A few pictures of the tunnel going in too
Well not much has happened to this recently but i have found my old rs steering arms under a mound of shite that was in my garage. My rear dampers arrived today and i also found a new batch of oil and a filter for the engine. Hopefully i will be working on the escort plenty on the weekend too.
Right finally some progress.
Shocks fitted the other day
I checked my new quick rack against the old 'quick rack' and quickly found out it was a standard rack doctored to look like a quick rack. That would explain why i was running out of lock all the time.
I also welded in the tank stand the other day and the welds are half about. If i do say so myself
Today with the help of my mate luke lukem30 on here helped me get a load done today.
Luke changed the steering arms whilst i cut the gearbox tunnel about in lee's style to fit the hearter in as well as the big tunnel.
The old steering arm
I never knew cast iron/steel bend that far before breaking!
My gearbox tunnel all finished
Heater in place with a nice ashtray for my phone
Then as i was finishing off luke started to make a fuel pump bracket so to finish up the day we welded it up ground back the welds and the same as everything welded it in.
I haven't got an bolts to hand but a decent welder
So i will be having another long day working on the shitter tomorrow so hopefully all the wiring can go back in and be somewhere close to running and hopefully luke will be around to help as we made loads of progress today.
I am going to run the main red top pump off the igniton/ecu as normal and the other of a switch incase the main one ever fails.
Good stuff mate
This one for the road and mk1 for the track Is It ?
This one it to ruin an to learn how to drive in autotesting, track days, drift days ect ect.The mk1 is to drive like a pro/fool but the plan is to rally the mk1 i. The end but i don't think i will be able to do it after the time money and effort i will be putting into it, deffo shows and track days though maybe a few hill climbs too. It is going to be geared low but not too low to be driven to the nurburg ring and spa. I don't even like a mk2 escort never mind a 4 door so the workmanship is function over form. I am thinking about nitromorsing the whole car and going for the rusty look but treating the surface rust by brushing oil onto it when rusty. All the metal i have put into it ao far will be untreated the tank stand, fuel pump bracket and the gearbox tunnel. Rusty rsty.
Ah the oily rag look lol that should get a few heads turning
Stop slacking and get up the bloody garage, we got some tandem skidding to do
The wiring is well under way i just have to finish it now i had a call out from the mrs who had broken her pug again.
Fuel filter/pressure reg all fitted and the oil coolers all plumbed up again.
Handbrake podium all welded in, i've just gone welding mad recently as i have a lack of bolts around the place
I have gone with the push type hydraulic handbrake as i have been told that is the proper way to mount them. If i can't get on with a push one i will change it to a pull
loven it as always but i fear a push handbrake will take sum gettn used 2????
Well alot of work went on yesterday for not alot of visual improvements.
I am doing the wiring in the engine bay at the moment and wiring in the new light swhich i had spare. I found out the new lights are really chav and the side light is a angel eye lets hope they are not blue or red or i will die!
I also used the seats out of the van for sitting on as i have missed the comfiness of these seats!
I have also finished making/adapting a mk2 quick rack (m18) threads to a fine thread of 1/2 unf so i can use my rose jointed steering arms as they held up really well in the last bump.
I'm going to get somemore done today and hopefully/maybe get her running.
Great work mucka, keep it up, wirings a shit boring job but its looking damn good so far
its not dead till it's buried!
T.I.T engineering. "Feel the power!"
Yeah i know it's doing my head in but i'm getting there slowly. The side lights work now and the full beam but no main beam? I am waiting on wire arriving now so i will have a proper look when all of that turns up.
They don't look as bad as i thought they would mainly because they aren't that bright. I did have an idea to make them indicators too but i really can't be arsed with that.
And yes you havw seen right i am using a pair of jump leads ans a battery to test my handy work
nice work on this so far....like the headlights....nice n bright compared to the shit that was in them
Much better than the candles in jam jars ford supplied
its not dead till it's buried!
T.I.T engineering. "Feel the power!"
Any way guys a boring update but lots of work and few pictures. The plan at the moment is to get her readyish driving and trailer worthy for a spin on a local autotest on sunday. Infact the same one the van died going to last time she was on the road
Things i have done this week is finish all the wiring apart from the front indicators and the rear lights. So that is 90% sorted.
Connected up the fuel pump and checked that and the ecu still work which they do!
Run the fuel line theough the car
Pulled off the x member as there was a stripped 5/16 unc captive nut. The one that holds the rack on there. So i drilled them all out and helicoiled them to m8 as i didn't have a 5/16unf kit there. If helicoils are good enough for aircraft i'll take my chances.
Fitted all the front end back up apart from the 4 chassis to double width brackets as i need new bolts as i had to cut the old ones off. And i need to make up ned rose joint to steering arms tapers next week now.
I have to short videos to sum up my progress for this week although i will be on it all weekend too
When i first conected everything up the ecu and fuel pump relay were going apeshit but not doing anything.

So i checked the battery and put her on charge which resulted in this happening

Over the moon that i haven't forgotten how to sort the wiring out as i haven't had a starter since i crashed the van into the ditch in walters arena.
And a quick picture of the rack with it's new bolts and newish quick rack

I also bolted the new tank in the boot too.
I have left to do.
Fit carbs
Weld in seat rails
Tidy up wiring
Sort all the rear brake lines out
A bleed nipple for the clutch
A load of nuts and bolts for the rear end
Fit the windows front and back
Fit the bonet and boot
Cut front arches to fit the wheels in when on lock.
And more stuff i am sure to have forgotten.
Since k gave the oil pick up for an oil pressure gauge to the mrs cappa i wasn't going to buy a full kit for an adaptor so i made one.
I cut rhe end off a pressure switch. Gutted it and had a piece made to fit inside it. I then had i neaty welded in place. Job jobbed.
Thanks for looking guys!
Coming along nicely bud
Looking sweet buddy,
That's the same way I'm testing the electrics in mine proving to be a mare with British leylands finest connection
Well i had a couple of hours on her sunday and got all the nuts and bolts to bolt up the hardware to the underneath. All i need to do now is put the new bolts in the prop.
I also made a new gasket for the 45's inlet mani as i have never had one.
I have always used the red silicone to seal it to the head. But my mate lloyd showed me how to make the perfect gasket with nothing more than two bolts, oviously gasket paper and a ball peen hammer.
For a first attempt at one i must say it is a nice piece of kit
With abit of hylamar smeered on the gasket i bolted it up and cranked her over and guess what happened after 6/7months of not running after priming up the carbs with the fuel pump we had flames on anger.
http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/...pse8645184.mp4
looks more like carbs of invisibleness on that vid
Don't forget some vids/pics of the auto test mate
Looking good BTW seems to be a fashion rat look 4 doors with naughty motors
This one is the noisey one :-P
http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/...ps34bea599.mp4
Ans now have 99% of the parts to finish the escort as far as i can remember so hopwfully a couple of goo days on her and she'll be fini.
There will be more updates tomorrow as i'm going to do a bit in the morning. What i donMt know yet but it will be closer to the end any way.
Well i didn't make the autotest in the scort but luke done it in his mk2 and had a good days skidding along with my mate dan in his mx5 and me and the mrs in the fezza so i will get videos up of them.
I have welded up the exhaust on the more door as it needed chopping as it was for a x flow. No pictures though as i burnt my arm badly and lost intrest in car quickly. Lol
I had a couple of days off then and welded in the seat rails plumbed up the rear brakes and put the steering coloum in.
Most people will notice the battery is infront of the passanger. That is becuase i wanted the passangers weight futher back in the car as they genarally weigh more than a battery does. Not too much to get her ready for retrorides now.
hello bud, cracking on abit nw,
when u built the 2.3 did u use the 2.3 head with rs cams or the rs and cams?
coz i heard if u use the 2ltr head the pistons gotta be skimmed?
i ask coz iv just bort a galaxy 2.3 engine and just after a info as im stuck what 2 do next, if i use the 2.3 head i need it welding but if i do that i mite aswell use the rs head if im taking it of
im gunna go full ignition just not sure which yet?
Your going to hate what i say next as i know your tight but you have basically bought the wrong 2.3. UNLESS you can get to the waterway at the back of the head which i'm sure you can.
Use the full 2.3 with the rs2k cams is the best way if you dont want to split the engine. If you decide to use the dta s40 ignition only or the s40 ignition and fuel injection ecu 505 quid new second hand retail 450 quid i have the igntion maps i could send you off mine. It would save you in mapping any way.
