I have read of issues due to radii shank to head, hole needs small c.snk.

Well today i got bored again and measured up the big end clearances by installing a standard piston on the rods to hold them still.
I used plenty of this and torqued the bolts up for a dry run
The results are below and range from 0.0018"/0.0015" so when i get the pisyons back and the block bored it is just a case of putting it all together as the rods are marked and so are the mains bearings.
well it isn't the mrs capri but we were out in one the other weekend.

that axle is giving 4 wheel steering on there
It Is moving a fair bit lol
They look the Job
This engine going to end up In the mk1 then or you going to keep both?
I was just discussing this this today i will be putting this engine in the mk1 as it is an easy drop in engine to finish off a hard project and i will then be dumping the wankle lump in the mk2 as a scruffy road/autotest car :-P thats the plan as this engine is going to be masive power somewhere round 250bhp ans a shit load of torque........i hope!
The engine will be 'run in' in thw mk2 though. :-P
Next up is a 390cc set of megane r26 injectors.
Glad you were happy with the 48s
Those things look amazing!!
Thanks I am really excited now everything is coming together now apart from the row/paypal situation with the cams which the guy hasn't accepted and they are now on their way back to me. So I am hoping I will still be allowed a refund on them.
The ported head should be with me some time next week and the pistons around the beginning/middle of march. Just the head gasket/head bolts and seals to buy along with getting the block cleaned up/re-bored and I can check the ring gaps and assemble the whole lot then!
There's no way you wont get your money back mate surely? You have pics of them turning up damaged..The bloke should have Insured them In the postage If he hasn't that's his lookout
Well he is ignoring paypal and the cams are on thier way back to me so i am looking to get my cash and the cams back so i will be up a couple of quid. He did insure them for 300 but the insurance would only pay out £166 because only one was broken and i wasn't happy with that and i wanted £199 off the guy towards a new cam which is £232 which i thought was resonable but he refused so i am claiming the full amount off him now and he thinks refusing the delievery will stop the claim.
Happy days
That's the problem with Internet purchases when It goes tits up Its a pain In the arse sorting It I know
At least your ok now though!!
looking good bud
Well i have got my hands on another bargin in the form of a type 9 tran x gearkit. It is missing a top hat and a couple of roller bearings that go in 1st and second gear. Apart from that it it complete and looks to be in good condition. I had it shot peened to stress relief all the parts and clean them up a little
I then modded the gears like i have seen in a post on here although this kit is a big step up from the quaife clubman kit you can never have enough lube.
So when i call quaife/tran x to get the parts i will strip my standard box and fit the wife gears.....of the whining sort.
Well i started stripping down the box today and quickly forgot that i would need a bearing puller so that put and end to it for today. Tomorrow i am off out to buy a bearing puller and kick quaifes arse into gear. As thwy are fobbing me off everytime i ring it is simple enough what i want. A bearing a top hat bush and a full circlip kit.
Rant over hear is todays progress
I didn't have a socket to remove this monster so i hit it off with a hammer. It isn't used on the tran x kit as it is straight cut the gears don't try and push off the shaft.
The cog under that nut is the one the puller is required but it will get it tomorrow.
well i have just had some good news the new exhaust cam is on order!!! Quaife/Tran X box parts are on their way to me, the pistons are 10 days off and the best but not least is the track day is actually on the 26th of april not the 6th!!!!! So i have an extra 20 days to get the scort ready!!!!!!!
Another small update in the form of the gearbox fully dissmantled
The gearbox was stinking inside and also had 22 needle roller bearings in it as one was stuck to the magnet in the bottom.
Next up for this is to open up the hole for the oil supply to 5th gear
Started to assembly the tran x kit today as the gear from quiafe came but i am now waiting on a full gearbox rebuild kit.
This is the kit that has 3 roller bearings in 1st an second. The bearings run between the gear ads a bush which fits over the main gearbox shaft.

I also started assembling the rest of the gear kit stalled becuae of beardings
Looking good
Good work with the gearbox, I see you have been busy grooving the gears, will be a fun car to drive and a nice torquey motor
"Horsepower sells cars, torque wins races" - Enzo Ferrari
it's the first type 9 I have rebuilt and apart from all the annoying circlips it is a lot easier than a fwd 106 rallye box. I did use your rebuild guide to groove the gears as well as open up the gearbox casing, gasket and the 5th gear spacer to increase oil supply. Even though it has the roller bearings in 1st and second make it better than the quaife clubman you can never get enough oil.
