english axle leather strap? to hand brake thingy

evening gents

as above please im guessing it was leather the one on my axle had disintergrated.

can you buy new ones, i have had a look and there is one on ebay but a little steep, what have you guys done in the past is there an alternative?

More of a rubberised canvas material
Remade mine using a bit off an old dustbin lid.

i used a fabric/rubberised exhaust hanger like this

just cut the end off then drilled through it and bolted it on.

throw it away and fit either mk2 escort or even capri rear brakes complete, will need to run a mk2 cable as well. had same problem on my mk1 mex yrs ago and went to mk2 gear, colved it all and even had a handbrake that would work in the lanes on tight hairpins when road rallying
