Cheers. Can I also ask which pulley you used for the idler between the alternator and the water pump?
I've got an LS1 sitting on the floor of the garage to go into a Mk1 Capri, but it's short of the ancillaries and headers so I'm trying to pick through and identify what I need.

The front of my engine is currently minus all of the ancillaries. It was a 2nd hand crate engine in the UK rather than a second hand package from the States so I'm trying to track down all of the brackets, pulleys and tensioners.

    I do appreciate you help.

    Re: Mk2 LS1

    What engine ?

There are two belt positions generally used, ie the crank pulley offset.

PartsWorld Performance sells accessory kits, although as they're new they do add up cost wise

Do you know what accessories you need, which locations etc ?

I'm only after the water pump which I've sorted and an alternator.
I've seen the cost of the kits, I'm still licking my wounds from the engine and gearbox.

I could be interested in the pump.
I've spent a fair bit of time perusing Summit's site. Lots of shiny things.

Love this Finlay, seen it in the mag, and hadn't realised it was on here..
Just finished putting an LS in my 3dr..

Tell me about your exhaust - are you just straight through twin system to those back boxes or is something else going on like X pipe, or centre box etc. Would be interested to know your thoughts on it, as would like to do some work on mine in the future. Have you ever had it noise tested track day style?
    Cheers

    hi Iain

thanks for the comments, do you have a build thread on here ? my exhaust has an X-Pipe and did have 2 inline silencers on each side but it wasnt loud enough so ive taken the rear silencers off and it sounds much better, both silencers were 12", a job on my improvement list is the remove the fixed silencers and weld in straight pipe and refit the rear silencers, this will improve looks and put a wee bit more weight over the rear wheels, its a 2.5" system with no cats, passed mot no probz

    cheers

    Finlay

    Re: Mk2 LS1

    Hi Finlay,
Thanks for your reply. Had to laugh that you thought it wasn't loud enough! I do recall in the mag seeing your exhaust end under the car near the rear axle without any rear silencers; but then saw the rear silencers earlier in your build thread hence the Q as to what you settled on.
Mine is twin 2.5 off stock headers but then comes together in a single 3" centre box just ahead of the diff (Jag in my case), then continues just like a Cossie out the back in 3" with a rear silencer in the normal place. (Actually now I recall I also took two inline bullet silencers out of mine in it's early days!)
Mine's pretty loud, just doesn't strike me as very tuneful... Nothing like all the you tube clips of various American LS engined beasts, but I figure I'm losing out with twin going into single.
I couldn't handle the aesthetics of a twin system coming out the back of a bumper - just my perspective. Have thought about twin side exits, and also twin exits out of the side of the bumper just behind the rear wheel... Will cost me what ever I do, but I'm also fearful of noise limits on track days. My engine was 480bhp on the engine dyno, but I think I'm losing a lot with my current exhaust.
I didn't have a thread on here, but did one on passion ford:

That's the last page. Only the last three are about the LS side of things - had a 351w in before.

    Hi Iain

Thanks for link to build, il enjoy reading that tomorrow 👍

Il have a think on exhaust ideas, i always knew from the start of the build i wanted twin slash cut pipes out the middle of the back pannel 😃

I would be very surprised if a single 3" is costing you much at that sort of level. At worst only a very small amount

Stevie Turbo; do you think? Mmm interesting. I figure I've gone from 5" worth of tube (2.5" x2) squashed down to a single 3" and then into a box. When I hear it it just sounds like pressure trying to get out! Most aftermarket stuff for LS's to replace oem systems are twin 2.5 (or even 3") all the way which is what got me thinking originally..

    Re: Mk2 LS1

I guess a session on a rolling road might tell me a little bit more to contrast against the engine dyno figures, but there's so many other things coming into play there. It's on a Canems ECU and was mapped by Dave from Canems originally so the plan is to get it on the RR to fine tune things, so I may well get an answer of sorts in due course.
Sorry to hijack your thread Finlay. As you were!

I know it isnt a same comparison, but a friends 4cyl turbo car made 750hp on the dyno with a full and fairly quiet 3" system. When we measured backpressure it was almost zero.

2 x 2.5" is not 5" worth in terms of flow area, in fact 3" is almost the same as those 2 x 2.5"

If you look at most Camaro stuff, where the LS was most common in the US many years ago, most of their's Y into a single 3"

By all means change, modify, whatever. But dont be thinking it will release gobs of power, or that a single 3" will be heavily restricting it. It just wont be.

Havent updated in a while as not much been goin on escort wise until now, fitted stiffer rear springs, 225, so will need to get her on knockhill soon to test, think i might also go up on the front from 350 to 400, just fitted electric power steering and to say its awsome is an understatement, i love it, transformed the driving experience 👍

Im looking at fitting power steering to mine. East to fit? Did you buy a kit or build your own? Whats it like at speed? Not too light?

Do you still have the Chevette or did you sell it. Nice to see a few more LS engines kicking about as well as yours.

Fitting not to bad, i had universal kit from easysteer, i just adapted it to fit my car, basically had to redo the steering col, mounts and had to get a shaft adaptor turned down on a lathe to fit the splines of my sterring wheel hub, a bit of work involved in the wiring side also but the guys at easysteer were spoton as i had a few Qs, its great at 40 mph arround town etc and when ur on the motorway you just turn it down so the resistance is greater 👍

I went out in my escort today for the first time this year and i had forgotten how heavy the steering was! Will definatly be fitting power steering. Easysteer do an add on that picks up a speed signal and adjusts the assist accordingly so i think i will look into that

I thought the vette was on ebay but wasn't sure you sold it. My old Chevette has had the final touches done to it now and is up and running, I went for a look last week and wow it sounds the muts nuts. My mate has been finishing it off for the guy I sold it to and he was saying it really goes well and said far easier to drive then an Escort with a BD engine as you don't have to rev it loads to make it go.
The excellent ute is still most excellent, I've been redesigning the exhaust system to tuck it up out of the way of speed bumps, , new diff fitted and needs to be run in. A set of new 362mm discs too!
It has been sat in the garage for a good few months to do little jobs on it, I was going to do the hill climb at the end of the month but I've been dead slack so I'm going to have ago at a sprint event in July hopefully.
I do miss the Chevette and it does sound well but it's just not a V8!!
