    New tow car project

Now things are settling down a bit since returning to Oz I need a tow car.
Before I left for the UK in 2006 this is what we used to tow the race car

4.0 straight 6, 4 speed auto 1992 Falcon wagon. cut rust from sill and generally tidied it up. had it for 6 years and averaged about 16 litres per 100Km's
a few months ago I picked this up

2002 AU Falcon Ute with canopy...4.0 straight 6, 5 speed manual 1 tonne load capacity (sort off) and 1600kg towing capability upgradable to 2300Kg's
Had to loose canopy and add some 18's

then had to lower it, 2 inches in front 4 in rear, could come down another 1 in the rear too I think

so far have replaced both doors, bonnet, grille, bumper, one front arch, rear tailgate and rear bumper

    dopey eyed thing!

Have upgraded the front suspension to later model with larger diameter brakes and bigger two piston slider calipers, poly-bushed throughout
However its just dropped compression on numbers 3 and 4 so will swap engines with a spare I have.
Want to swap dash and seats out for darker and better condition versions as its been as tradesmans ute for its life hence needing to swap out all the wobbly panels. Might splash it with some colour too...perhaps matching matte black and maybe fit ABS.
Just need to find a place that will now swallow 3 cars and a trailer.

replaced the air-conditioning compressor, and accumulator/drier and all of the 'rubber' a/c seals, new steering wheel and Airbag and new led's behind the cluster to be able to see the gauges, so everything seems to work now.
Just bought a house too so it's use as work car begins in a few weeks.

    Re: New tow car project

    forgot about this,
came out one morning and found a cracked windscreen, so pulled the tub off it !

Pulled the windscreen out to find rust in the mounting flange so cut it out repaired it and repaired 14 years of roof use!

    prepped the tub for paint

Painted it and the cab in the middle of a major storm, rained so hard the ridge vent let dropplets through directly above the freshly painted roof, so re prepped it and hit it again

then stripped the front end, and reassembled the rear

prepped the front wings and bonnet and doors

    and painted them

Had some spare matte black paint from the escort

couldn't find a better front bar so left it as was until I did find one but...
then we decided to move back to london so sold it and the purchaser also took this, as well, great deal for me as he didn't collect until two days before we left.

happy to say made money on the ute, broke even on the 5.0 V8 XR8
