At a very early age I was mentally scarred by a bright green smoke breathing monster which left a lasting effect on me.
It was 1985, I was 9 and my uncle used to take me to his printing firm off of Old Street some Saturday mornings before we went to the footie. His mate had a lime green RS2000 which in my eyes was the coolest thing I'd ever seen. They were early 20's, smoked a lot, swore a lot and got drunk so were even cooler to me. Andy used to get in the RS2000, inches from the wall and do massive burnouts that filled the street with smoke. A few years later he got a Sierra Cosworth which I was also mightily impressed with.
So on to present day, for some reason as the years past the green monster went to the back of my mind and i spent vast sums of money on Porsches, a Lotus Elise that I put a supercharged and chargecooled Honda vtec in but I never realised the Escort dream. Well it's time to put that right, funds aren't what they used to be, I got made redundant in Feb 2012, went traveling with the missus for a year, came back in March 2013, got a job paying far less than before (lucky to get a job in this day and age). But it's got me thinking about the Escort again, I deserve a new toy.
I have a track prepared Clio which I'm selling and will put this towards my Escort purchase (was going to keep both but missus put her foot down) I had my heart set on a MK1 but the budget is about £7k and I think I'd perhaps be better off with a South African import MK2 1600 Sport. I'd love a mk2 Rs2000 but they're gonna be ropey in my budget and unfortunately I am a mechanical numpty so a project is out of the question. Although I do have a mate who is mechanically gifted and has said that we can upgrade the car and he'll stand by guiding me while I do the work.
Anyway looking forward to getting the car and getting involved in the old ford scene.
