I noticed that when was was changing gear that the gearbox was crunching very slightly in every gear, I tightened up the clutch cable until all play was removed and still no improvement. I thought that the clutch (ap 4 paddle) might have been worn out so I got it out today for inspection. As I didn't fit the clutch I'm not sure how much meat they are supposed to have, I have taken a few pics, do you think it needs re-lining?
Also the clutch paddles don't seem to be using all the available space on the flywheel and the clutch cover friction surfaces, do I need a bigger clutch?
And lastly can anybody tell if the cover plate an ap item?
Or am I looking in the wrong place, I did notice that the gearbox oil was very low and quite black, could this be causing the slight crunch?
The car is a mk2 escort with an xe and a straight cut type 9.
