Cheap car insurance for a 17 year old lad

My lad is 17 and wants to start to drive. The car he has is a MK2 Jetta 1.6 H plate. The question is where and how is the best /cheapest place to get insurance.

Re: Cheap car insurance for a 17 year old lad

My advice is take a few days off work, sit down in a comfy chair, and do lots of phoning.
I found Adrian Flux a joke personally, and very INSULTING when trying to insure my cossie, they admitted that i was being "loaded" due to being disabled, glossing over the fact this is ILLEGAL.
I am now insured with everything declared, including disabilities with Marker Study, through A Plan(broker), service is excellent.
I had to take a disabled driving test, which can last a whole day if they(DVLA) wish, mine was from 2pm to 5:30pm, in a 100% std car(austin metro-manual) with no adaptions of any kind when I passed, still AF thought they could pull a fast one.
Shop around is the only way, I know AVIVA have the scheme with the black box that is supposed to be really good, monitoring your driving.

    Hi

We would like to take the opportunity to look into the call. Adrian Flux are a Broker and therefore we do not set premiums ourselves.

Please feel free to PM me the reference number or your name and postcode if you feel it appropriate to allow us to respond to your statement on this forum.

    Regards

    Dan

Fair play to the man for trying to sort this for you. This is customer service at its best IMO, putting yourself out to try to sort a problem.

At least give him a chance to put things right, he may just change your opinion of the company...

My lad turns 17 soon so interested in other peoples findings on this...

Re: Cheap car insurance for a 17 year old lad

Personally I can't rate Adrian flux high enough. Both my mk1 escorts , a caterham style kit car and now my caravan have all been insured through them and very competitive on the price and everso polite and knowledgable on the product they are selling.
This doesn't help the poor 17 year old tho. Although I've heard the black box system is the way forward. ( and its designed to keep the kids off the road after 11pm and no underage passengers I believe) which is when most "show off" type accidents happen.

    Dan,
It was about 7 years ago, what realistically could you do ?, what has happened cannot be undone, it doesn't bother myself, if you knew the hassle disabled people get you'd know what I am talking about, it's just life, hardly a week goes by without discrimination, often from other disabled people, popular comments are "you're too young to be disabled", usually when parking my cossie in the disabled spaces, whilst displaying my valid blue badge, even been "reported" by two tesco staff when I refused to show them my badge ha ha.
Seriously don't worry about it, the employee may no longer work there.
When it comes to renewal time I will try with yourself but only if YOU personally deal with the quote, I'm sorted for nearly a year at present.

    Hi,

We do treat insurance of disabled drivers very seriously. We have a standalone disabled insurance brand, Chartwell Insurance , www.chartwellinsurance.co.uk.

Please do contact me when your renewal is due and i will deal with this personally for you.

    All the best

    Dan

    Dan,
I always shop around each year, I will contact YOU personally when the time is due, for a quote, as I pass by your place nearly every week it might be easier if I popped in, as I have in the past gone into the front office on my way to/from KL.
    Thanks,

Re: Cheap car insurance for a 17 year old lad

i heard yesterday if a 17 year old takes an insurance policy and puts his parents on as named drivers it will bring the premium down.

Anyone have experience of this?? It makes sense as when i put the mrs on my policy the cost reduces...
