Nice mate, i done the same to my bonnet, took ages to get all of the rust out but well worth it
Nice mate, i done the same to my bonnet, took ages to get all of the rust out but well worth it
nice work mate like a pro!
i am struggling to get a good bonnet,my front edge has alot of holes so might try to restore this one.
was the front support a git to remove ? i also have a nut missing to the hinge support so have to remove that anyway
always worth a try i guess.
i didnt find it too dificult removing the front brace, the dremel really was worth its weight in gold
stripped mine today, refurbed the braces, welded fresh new hinge bolts in.
now decoding wether to spot weld the braces or just use bonding agent
mine are glued back on as per original
a welder will almost certainly distort the thin bonnet skin
i used gripfill but any decent glue such as sikaflex, tiger seal etc.. should do the same job
Great work mate, Same tin worm locations as mine lol..
wanted to get my rear floorpan in today but no joy, instead i spent ages removing rot and prepping
was a nice section of rot just here
so it was chopped out and replaced
i was originally going to leave my seat x-members in but curiosity got the better of me and im glad i had a look
it looks as if a plate has been added at some point but they just ignored the rest of the rot?? bizarre!
floor pan dropped in the hole, not yet welded in
and heres where i finished up
Basically im going to replace the entire section underneath the seat x-member and then create my own x-members out of 1.2mm mild steel
i havent decided yet whether ill create my own inner sills or use pattern parts
(i already have one side so it may be just as cheap to buy the other side rather than buying the steel to make my own
speak to Tim at TJM links above he does them with 10% discount for forum users ive had ALL my panels off him
http://www.tjmotorsport.co.uk/prodde...p?prod=2516760
£23 x2 = £46 - £4.60 discount £41.40 + postage
i do like the box idea though

I think i may need a few bits off him soon, if i cant save mine ill need a pair of splash panels and also door hinge posts
ive had inner wings, a posts, splash guards, front floor pans, front panel with x member and slam panel, outer front panel, underwing supports, outer sill, inner sill ....... so far lol haha, real top bloke tell him i recommended him.
If im being totally honest i was keeping an eye on your thread and waiting to see how you did your A posts (door hinge posts) before attempting mine
how much are the door hinge posts from TJM? im having difficulties navigating his site, the kids usually help with stuff like that but they are both in bed lol
the a pillar post is easy lads,if yours is proper crusty then just take a deep breath .
youll struggle to find some of the spots so youll need to get cutting.
dont remove the thick steel hinge iron that stays on the car. the rest trim out, remember to lob a brace in to keep perfect distance to the door.
mines moved 5mm so gotta beat it .
dont panic its only a bit of metal, i will take a look we will sort it.
Knocked together a filler section to go between the front and rear floor pans underneath the seat x-member
i first made a template out of 0.8mm mild steel, the reason is that its easy to cut and bend (plus i have loads of it)
Once the template was tested (and fit ok) i went back down the shed to create the proper section with some thicker steel
trial fitted my filler section today and it seems to fit quite nicely, the little 90 degree bend tucks neatly under the sill, ill be drilling a few holes and plug welding it from the top and then seam weld it all the way along where it meets the front floor pan
i also trial fitted my headlights, they are currently taped into place with gaffa tape, the reason being that the original bolt holes are absolutely miles out!
i plan to weld them up, drill my own holes and use riv nuts to bolt the bowls in place
Thought i'd better leave it there for now, if i spend new years day on the car ill get my ass kicked
its amazing how different she looks with headlights, much more like a car

Keep up the good work
Some top fabrication work going on here. Keep the pictures and posts coming, it's really good watching this come together. One hell of a lot of work going into it but its easy to see it will be a cracking car when finished. Well done mate,
The difference between men and boys... is the price of their toys!!!!
Cheers guys, much appreciated
this morning i managed to get my filler section and rear floor pan welded in,
to be honest i spent most of my time measuring and marking things out, took quite a bit of modifying to get the rear floor pan to go in the hole properly.
I have decided that once all the floor pans are done im going to chop out the prop tunnel and weld in one of those nice big rally tunnels
I have ordered some 1mm mild steel which i'll use to create my own inner sills, (thats next on my 'to do' list)
Great work
Nice one bud ur cracking on fairplay u may be cruising the streets in that by the summer a
how u getting on with the ryobi grinder I reckon there cracking its better than my dewalt/makita and my basch one and its got a nice little stash ror the spanner
top work keep it up bud
I have got through quite a few grinders and have found this one to be one of the best, i bought it reduced and half price too, what a bargain!
Looking good mate ive seen alot of people doing it but are you not full welding most of the panels? will you be seam sealing after?
Everything will be fully welded, for now though i plan on just stitch welding them in until everything fits nicely
(just in case it has to come back out again lol)
Created my own inner sill last night from 1mm mild steel, works out about half the price of buying inner sills off ebay and in my opinion is far more tidy as the join is tucked away at the bottom if the sill where it first meets the floor.
At the moment its plug welded every 3", at a later date ill seam weld it all the way along the bottom, the only problem i ran into is that the metal i ordered it slightly sorter than advertised hence the gap towards the rear (im not too fussed as ill knock up a small section at a later date)
Nice one bud money saved to spend else where
Brilliant job your doing there buddy!!!
Cheers mate!
slow progress but i like to take things steady, double checking everything and (hopefully) get it right first time
Best taking it slow mines been a work in progress for 14 years ha ha
