    5tox mk1 escort restoration project

Need a bit of help, i have a rear magnum panel which arent renowned for their quality and always need a little work.
At the top of the rear light does the top line sit flush with the rear quarter (then ill hammer and dolly the bit underneath to follow the curve of the rear quarter

Or do does the bottom part sit flush with the rear quarter so the top sits slightly behind the top swage line

....that was incredibly hard to explain 😁

    Try this for size.
    All original!

The rear quarter overhangs the rear panel by 9mm(3/8")
The middle of the radius on the rear quarter is 28mm(1 1/8") above the bottom of the channel.
Then 25mm (1") up the top

    5tox mk1 escort restoration project

Well after skiving work this afternoon i got the rear panel welded to the o/s/r quarter, its also welded along the boot floor... i havent yet welded it to the n/s/r quarter as i think ill be chopping out and replacing the last foot (its in pretty bad shape)
The boot floor now butts up lovely against the rear panel where the previous owners repairs had left a 10mm gap (not to mention the rear panel was completely on the piss and didnt line up at all with the rear quarters 😂

Spent most of the day repairing the nearside rear quarter, still a bit to do tomorrow but very rewarding.
I love these intricate bits of work

Well impressed with your quality of work, did you get any measurements & or diagram for fitting the arches??

Nice work mate 👍🏻 I would recommend making sure your rear lights fit now.. they don’t have much tolerance. Better to do it now than have to open them up after it’s painted. I speak from experience 😬

I really wasnt sure how i was going to deal with these rear lower quarters as the only company who seem to sell them anymore want a million pounds a corner, mk2 ones are sensibly priced and readily available so thought of buying a pair and modifying them but this evening i decided to try and fabricate something from sheet steel.
Well it actually turns out it was fairly easy to do and im very pleased with the results

Went through your whole thread, great attention to detail, I'm sure lots of us can understand spending hours on the smallest of details that people will never see just so we know they're done right.

Made half of the rear nearside wheel tub filler section, very time consuming but also very satisfying getting it in.
Now i have a template for the offside it should be a little quicker, i know that common advice is to just butt the filler section up to the bubble arch leaving a small gap and seam seal but its not a rally car likely to take constant bangs to the quarter so ive folded a lip and plug welded it in

Rear firewall back in plus a few holes in the boot floor welded up, its deliberately set back s few inches along the bottom so it sits nicely between the turrets.

I can't help thinking that this little "shelf" you have created here is going to be a haven for all the shit off the back wheels to collect and cause a water trap leading to it rotting out again much quicker than it should...

The fabrication in general looks superb though.
