4 door for the lanes

heres a few pics of my work in progress.
it was a 1300 brown 4 door when i bought it back in march 2008. one owner from new who must have loved the brown and beige colour scheem.
when i viewd it i saw i needed new rear arches, front wings, a hole in each sill, the front floors and holes and also the rear boot wells.

anyway here she is after i drove it to my garage, with the lads looking amused at something so old and retro...







i started a striping the interior and rusty old panels, followed by engine, box, etc etc, trying to get it to a bare shell. unfortunatly i lost my camera, so havne only got pics of it looking messy. here it is when i was trying to turn it around

it had had repairs on the rear arches before, but there was too much filler and wasnt a very smooth job.

the floors were a tad cheesy too


so choped the crapy metal out and replaced with clean plates.

got a new front panel on and arches









and recently ive got it on its side to strengthen up the chassi





almost got all the bots i need im just taking forever on the shell.
need 4.1 lsd barkes and suspension, then thats most the bits purchased

today tho i was confused by these bits.....

any idea where they go? they came in a chassi strengthning kit, the little bits are like angle iron

They go at the bottom of the front shock turrets

I didnt bother fitting the ones i got from roy nunn, they didnt fit too good and mk2's are just doubled up there (with those bits you have) whereas the mk1's were strengthened by adding the sections in as they were missing from the base models and so became as strong as standard mk2 items

Nice one, whats the plans engine wise? I reckonise that number plate on the wall , the misses wants it back is it still on the road?

you can have the plate make a clone lol
ive got a 2ltr rs2000 engine block, stage 1 burton head, kent cam (not sure of duration) single weber 45 on lynx manifold, lightend flywheel and some other bits and bobs. got a nice quaife 4 speed ready too.
just looking out for diff, prop, engine mounts, brakes and suspension

tiny update,

i managed to put one sill/chassi skid on and made the underneath look like a nasty road kill just for the time being



also put some tiger seal around the welds, and it does not come off your hands easy!

just wondering before i get the car the right way up again..... what do i do here with the gear stick hole?
im gona use an rs2000 4 speed box, apparently i have to move the hole back an inch and a bit, but i notice this bracket in the way...

You need to cut a piece out of the strengthing bracket and move the stick hole back about an inch??

Bit in yellow cut out the section.

Bit in green cut out and turn the other way and weld back in...

You need RS2 lowering blocks i might have a pair hanging around..

thanks to 'The slip' and a few others earlia today we put the car back on its wheels.
didnt do much, just a quick clean up in the garage.
but heres some pics of the arches and how it is now.









just need to get the passenger side skid on, then il probably be moving location

car has moved recently, had some help from the mrs father who's very kindly let me use one of the barns on his farm. now i have a lot of room need to get a few bits before i can progress, pluss the sheds go feed init at the mo so im working around that until the end of the month
tried to fit the cage today, having trouble fitting the top bar across the windscreen.
anyway, il try and get some pics up tomorow if i get a chance, ive been ropped in to teach the mrs little sister how t ride a bike, think i might teach her to weld instead

on its way with help, as the trailer had no ramps, so it was a big heave and lift the car on the trailer

placed the cage in today just to see how it fitted, needs a bit of fettaling but il get it done, need more mig wire too

is the rs 4 speed is the same length as a type 9 if it is then you have to move the hole further back than an inch

yea i belive its prety much the same, same bellhouseing anyway, so il be cutting the hole back a tad

gota drop the x-member and drill the chassi to put long bolts through and crush tubes to match up with the lowering blocks for the gear box, then i can figure out what needs to be done with the tunel but im not sure how much i need to lower it by?

also need rs engine mounts, or if anyone has got one for sale, a wc x-member

luckily most of the horid looking rusty areas on the floor of the car were just surface, and a quick rub down showed it wasnt too bad

little progress recently, giving up smoking, work getting busy and then a stomach bug left me in bed for a few days.
anyway, recent bits done are... the seat rails in, capri petrol tank in, fire wall in and sealed up, pedal box in, bulk head strengthening done.
thats about it.
very slow progress im affraid, il get some pics up next time
also as sheering season is coming up in june its moving out of that barn and into another
