hi all hope your all well . here goes well i or we its a team effort are rebuilding a mk1 escort its a bare meal restoration with a 2.0 pinto dropped into her i was trying to track down some history on the old girl as she is a barn find and the dvla have said the car is a 1300 on a 1100 base just wondered if this is normal or an engine swap in the past and help or info would be much appreciated .

£5 gets you a list of all the previous registered owners from the DVLA, you can print the form off from their main web site, fill it in send off with £5 cheque and wait 2-3 weeks for info, then contact previous owners, if they say it is 1300 on 110 base, they mean it was a 1100 to start with, but some one changed engine and had log book amended to show this.

cheers tabs i thought the engine swap was most likely, think i just needed someone else to say it so i wasn't just confusing myself thinking it was not a legit car

A lot don't bother, some don't bother updating DVLA records for dodgy reasons, ie can't afford to insure with bigger engine, but insurers are catching on fast, as is legislation and the MOT, where modifications are going to be checked as part of it, there's already an interesting clause about "immobilisation" of the car checked at MOT time now, ie steering lock has to work, or it has to have one of a number of other alternatives, for those cars that don't have steering lock.
