    Re: Sunbeam Tarmac Rally Car

The Alluminuim box section I ordered arrived the other day and I could not resist having a play with the TIG on AC. I know I should have carried on with the shell but these are all jobs that will need doing. I made up this wheel carrier. The idea of 2 pins as stays is I am still not 100% sure 13" or 15" wheels and this system accomodates them both. Just need to put some anker points in now for the rachet straps..

    Re: Sunbeam Tarmac Rally Car

I could get it so the it fits flat on the rear dif tunnel but it would only work with 13" wheel and I may still go to 15" The major thing is though, where it is the whole thing comes out through the rear hatch easily. Any other position would place it lower than the rear fire wall and you would need arms like Popeye to stetch in and lift it out.... Nice thought though... Thanks.

Nice build. It takes me back to the days when I rallied a group A 1600 TI, forest rally entry fees were just about affordable and summers were dry and sunny (well, sometimes).

The good old days when the grass was greener, the summers were longer...... There's a song in there somewhere!!!! I long for the day I need to worry about entry fees..... Seems to be taking for ever... Life so busy I don't get enough time to really crack on..... Fingers crossed for 2015...

just read through your build, looks brilliant and im steeling some ideas for mine if you dont mind! i like the idea of closing in the fuel tank, i need to either do the same or find a way to fit a pump in the original tank to run efi. what tank will you be using and what will seal the lid you will have on top? cheers Arwyn

    Re: Sunbeam Tarmac Rally Car

The tank came from Alloy Racing Fabrication, which was one of their standard parts. I just asked them to weld on AN12 fittings.... The top to the enclosure is metal with a hinged lid to fill the tank through. I'll put up some photoes....

    Re: Sunbeam Tarmac Rally Car

Busy day today as I started to make the roll cage and fitted the Navigator front seat rail.

Click image for larger version Name:	IMG_1585.JPG Views:	323 Size:	25.2 KB ID:	72718

Making the roll cage was a nervous time. I borrowed a bender and screwed it to the decking in the garden. Started by measuring and remeasuring to draw an accurate outline of the interior of the car.

Click image for larger version Name:	IMG_1571.JPG Views:	323 Size:	28.5 KB ID:	72716

Set up for 1st bend... scared.

    Re: Sunbeam Tarmac Rally Car

I wanted to get the cage as snug as possible to the shell and I am quite please with the results. Not bad for a 1st attempt.

    Re: Sunbeam Tarmac Rally Car

I made the plates for the bottom of the legs and fitted them to the platforms then tacked the legs to them. I will take the cage out to fully weld them later.

    Re: Sunbeam Tarmac Rally Car

Another good day in the garage. The cage is coming together nicely although trying to cut angles on pipes is a challenge. The door bar connectors work well for the cross bar that I tied into the transmission tunnel. Looks like it will be another week before I can do anymore cos work summons....

    Re: Sunbeam Tarmac Rally Car

Thanks guy's. yes pleased with the way it's coming out but time is hard to come by at the moment... I have set myself the target of doing an event at the end of next year. The thing is with this is, it seems to be going on and on and on etc etc...... But the good news is, with all the prep work being at this stage, when its finally in paint the build should be reasonably quick. Just like everything the quality of the end product is all down to the prep. Thanks for the support, it does help....

    Re: Sunbeam Tarmac Rally Car

Keep it coming mate, I read the whole thing again as its given me some good idea's for my sunbeam. mine is still a long way away and a new garage build is sucking all my money, but the car will be right next to my house then so hopefully some more time will be spent on it.

    Re: Sunbeam Tarmac Rally Car

Just found this thread from when I first started my build. Things have moved on a lot but unfortunately I am unable to say it's finnishe. I continued the build on using face book to let people follow the progress.. if you would like to find it just search for "Talbot Sunbeam Rally car" and you'll see a picture of the car as standard.

    Pictures to big to attach
