fully floating atlas axle half shaft lengths

Hi, i am am after some information on what length atlas axle i can build up with some fully floating half shafts i have just bought. The seller said they came out of an historic spec group 4 axle, so to me they should be for a 48.5" axle. I can't find any info on what length they should be but the seller is telling me they are 745mm in length. I don't know how they are measuring them either. What i am hoping for is some figures and where to measure to and from for a baby. narrow and full width fully floating axle. Thanks for looking guys, John

Hi. What arches will you use? I am in exactly same situation now. Lenght depends on arches size (forrest, tarmac or monte carlo) and wheels with tyres. Do you know exact size between inner sides of rims? If you are not in hurry, maybe can help you. I will go to the UK next month to buy 9x13", -12 ET (offset) wheels and 235/530-13" tyres. First i will put wheels with tyres to the car and after this I will measure dimension between rims. On the basis of this measurement I will cut the tube and will buy halfshafts. I talked to Phill Squires (Rally and Competition Equip., +44 1782 523 664) and they are able to supply any halshaft lenght. But for my car (Monte Carlo arches and wheels and tyres as above) it will be around 770mm (but not sure!). Do you have standard or thick tube?
    (sorry 4 my English)

745mm measured end to end....suit a 54.25" casing (55.25" overall axle)...i.e. a 'narrow' width floater which is the most popular width for a historic spec Escort. For the f/f equivalent of a 48.5" 'baby' Gp.1 casing you'll want 722mm shafts. I stock every part needed for a f/f Atlas if you need anything for your build.

    HTH's.....

Thanks for the reply!. I haven't looked into it too much yet but i'm sure i will be able to cut 1" off the shafts i have. I will fire a PM over to you for a quote on the parts i need to build the axle. Thanks, John

I will be putting it on a bubble arched mk1 escoet with 13"x8/9j wheels so it will be best to go for the 'historic spec axle at 55.25" half shaft flange to halft shaft flange. I already have a grp1 thick tubed (60mm diameter) atlas with a 4.6 cwp and 18t tran x diff in and i am/was going to build up a fully floating grp4 axle too but if i can get away with it i think i will cut the ends off the 50" grp 1 axle and make it a grp4 one. Measuring it all up i think i can get away with it but i will have to spend the best part of £600 to find out :-D
