    Glen's RS2000 mk2

    Evening all,
Next one is Glen's very sorry looking RS2000,
Plan is is to start with the front, It needs a fair amount of work, a few pics to set the tone....

Let's get started with the first of many holes,

    Fixed,

    On to the otherside,

Even had to make a new bit for the heater shroud,

    New bubble spot welded on,

The lower lip/bulkhead needed a repair,

With the bulkhead repaired it's time to remove this bit,

    First trial fit,

So there we go, first update with plenty more to come!
    Thanks for looking,
    Cheers,
    James

    Re: Glen's RS2000 mk2

    Evenin all,
    Time for some more!
Before I could weld the inner wing had to make a repair plate for the front of the chassis leg,

    Inner wing spot welded on,

A slightly different approach is req for the drivers side as the leg is shot and plated to death,

Trial fit of the new to this car chassis leg and inner wing,

All looking good so far, have started to mock the front end panels up prior to welding to see how every thing fits,

Thanks for looking and the coments, more tomorrow,
    Cheers,
    James

    Re: Glen's RS2000 mk2

    Evening all,
A little update on this, Glen popped down with some more panels for the O/S.
Floor was a bit of a patch work quilt!

    Hole time!

    Trial fitted,

    A pillar repaired,

    Sill welded on,

Splash panel and front of floor repaired,

Centre chassis leg and seat X member spot welded in, a few pics with some etch brushed on,

So there we go, looking a bit better this side!
    Thanks for looking,
    Cheers,
    James

    Re: Glen's RS2000 mk2

    Evening all,
    time for another update,
Following on from last time, the floor was pretty peachy on the N/S, so out it came,

    New Express half floor,

    A pillar repaired,

This bit next, a lot of crappy repairs before, bugger!

New spalsh panel and a repair to the footwell which was a pain in the arse as it curves both ways,

    Old sill off,

    New one spot welded on,

    Centre chassis leg in,

    Seat X member in,

While the spot welder was out thought it would be rude not to spot the RS top on!

    Thanks for looking,
    Cheers,
    James

    Hi,
    Thanks for the comments,
It's me by myself, work some bloody long hours!
I have had a few spot welders over the last few years, gradually improving as money allows, all been proper jobs, but the latest one is a 9000 amp wielander and schill invertor job, it's still insurance approved, probably the must expensive bit of kit in the workshop, but hey ho!
    Cheers,
    James

Been a very time since July 2014 but life and all its obstacles get in the way, but decided this years resolution was get this project back up and running.

Car needs to be stripped of all paint, filler underseal and last bits of rust before going for new paint. car was collected by Enirvo-Strip last week.

Blimey, I've gone through the DVLA ownership records tonight and your right apparently it was owned by the very same person in 1982. Group 1 engine wasn't available when i got the car, I wish it still had, I would definetly be smiling now, however interestly my plan is to go back to group 1 spec with slight twist including IDF throttle bodies.

if you have any more past info this would much appreciated.

    many thanks

yes, will let you know and keep this thread updated with pic's. didn't fancy acid dipping due to hearing many problems with acid bleeding through the joints/seams long after the dipping process.

alex thom owned it before jimmy,i could not afford to buy it off him as it was so new,it was a frews of perth registered car, red, brown interior, black vinyl roof,gp1 engine which was fitted at frews as an after accessory.
had many evenings tearing around the lanes here, either in front or behind it
was one of the tidest cars back then, jimmy got it after he wrote of his black rs2, barrel rolled that one into a field.
on sad note, jimmy died young a few years ago from of all things, food poisoning

    Re: Glen's RS2000 mk2

    Thanks for this info.

Your right Alex Thomas Mechanical Engineering first registered owner, so possible company car?.

Still have the brown Recaro interior was thinking about going with recovering in black beta cloth, now in two minds now may possibly recover with brown beta.

Also right about the roof having vinyl however, I got the roof panel changed due to crap attempt at infilling the sunroof opening with a flat piece of steel.

Once again this info greatly welcomed any extra details/pictures would be appreciated.

    Thanks again.

    Re: Glen's RS2000 mk2

it was alex thomas own car, hence the number plate,he ran birkhill autopoint which was like a scottish version of mike youngs rs center,i think he was ex ford sales before he set up on his own
dont think it had a sunroof at that time must have been fitted later
im sure that car is 1980 registered on a v which would be brown interior thats the way i would restore it
only mods i can remember were the gp1 exhaust system and rear bilsteins
pictures would have been a possibility if jimmy had still been alive as he was right into his cars and would have kept loads of them, the rs2 was only going to be sold as he had bought an audi quattro turbo also in red,one of the first around here.
i think alex thomas took it back but dont know where it went after that
