help please- type 9 quaife pro gearbox leak

    Hi all,

Anyone know the reason why i have an oil leak between bellhousing and gearbox face on my quaife type 9 ? The box was new but old stock. We have only used it on the rolling road and leaked a bit but when drving around it leaks a lot more. The front seal looks fine when we disassembled it and there was no evidence of oil travel and we re-sealed the shaft holder both sides of the gasket when we re-installed. Any help much appreciated. Thanks Carwyn

gasket i had on it , alas i think i have found the problem . after reading around and inspecting the bellhousing seems i have nothin stopping the lay shaft from moving out as there is a cut out in the bellhousing for the h/d box. Will get that welded and machined down and go from there.

Spooky...I've just done one for a customer exactly the same as yours needs. Welded the bugger up and milled it off flush because it had a bloody great hole in it!!

Pressure in the box can cause a leak from the front seal too.....make sure the breather pipe ain't restricted.

Check the housing bore for the layshaft and the position of the Layshaft (not outstanding (front) of the box).
