Is there much work involved fitting one in and what all do you need?

What 4AGE you want to fit? 16V bigport AE86 (rwd), 16V small port AE92/AW11 (fwd), 20V ST/BT AE101/111 (fwd)
It depends which one you want to fit as to the extent of what is involved...
Main issue is the sump being front bowl on all of them, which means modifying the sump to fit over the crossmember and steering rack.
An AE86 exhaust manifold can be modified to fit any 4age in an escort and mated to an escort system quite easily.
Engine mounts will either be chassis mounted or custom onto the crossmember, most use the chassis mounts
Carbs or ITB's will determine the Ignition/ECU setup, webers, bike carbs, or 20v ITB's, Jenveys etc? And also the associated costs of upgrading the fuel system if going injection.
Gearbox will be either a ford type 9 or a toyota T50 out of an AE86 but they are not exactly common Type 9 requires a bellhousing and a hybrid clutch setup though.
Also if your fitting a fwd engine you need to alter the cooling arrangement to suit rwd format, AE86 parts can be bolted onto the AE92/AW11 4age's but the 20v is completely different.
If you tell me the engine, box and induction. I can focus on what is required to fit that combination in more detail

Difficult to tell from just that one photo, but its definitely transverse engine due to the intake manifold facing the rear of the engine and the water outlet sticking out the back.
Unfortunately the cam cover has been painted at some point which means I'd need to see the block and inlet port size to determine exactly what it is, however I would hazard a guess that it would be the later small port 16v as it has the extension on the block for the oil filter which didnt feature on the early bigport engines.

Thanks, I think I'll give this one a miss
Assuming that is a smallport 16v then that's one of the better ones and there increasing in price too. They produced more bhp in standard trim (134). If you want a insight into the work involved then look at my thread

Dont discount the 16v. im using a one for my current project with a T50 box. Shout up if you need any further info on the conversion.

The inlet manifold and throttle bracket look to be from an MR2, the inlet manifold also looks like a big port TVIS one so I would say it is a big port engine.
Best way to tell is to see if there is an external head oil drain back to the sump.
