Wink How do these top mounts fit?

    Hi guys, I bought new rose jointed top mounts for my coilovers with bilstein inserts. I also bought the 5/8 spacer kit and assumed everything would bolt straight on. I can't work out how it fits together. Here are a few pics;

    Top of my insert

    1st type of spacer

    second type of spacer

top mount with no spacer fitted

top mount with 1st type of spacer fitted

not enough thread left to get the nut on

Generally speaking your type of Bilstein insert uses a sleeve nut:

You will need different top mounts or larger bearings fitted to yours for the sleeve nut to work.

This top mount is for a Fiesta but it should be obvious how it fits:

I see, thanks. I suppose I could turn the first spacer down to expose more thread then use the sleeved nut with the top mounts I already have

you need to fit a high angle spacer/washer on top of the insert then the top mount then a sleeved top nut

Doing this will not leave enough room for the sleeve nut to fit between the bearing and the thread.
I think you would be better off seeing if larger bearings could be fitted to your top mounts.
From memory the internal dimension of the bearing needs to be 20mm to suit the sleeve nut. Check this with the nut supplier if you go this route.
Here is an example bearing for dimensions, better quality bearings of this size are available:

Are they roller bearings in your mounts ?

There are spherical bearing in my top mounts and the ID is 20mm so sleeved nuts should be ok?

I'm guessing in the 2nd from last picture (close up) that one of the spacer sleeves is fitted to the strut and the mount is sitting on it ?

if it were me i'd also be looking at machining the underside of the alloy spring cup to allow more of the strut to poke through

Machine the spacers in the 2nd picture to leave approximately 5mm protruding up into the bearing and when you have the correct sleeve nuts machine these to a length that suits, approx. 10mm inserted into the bearing from the top.

Phone Gartrac and get steel spring mounts for the top of the spring. The steel ones are thinner and not as thick as the aluminium ones leaving more of the thread on the insert to fit the top mount nut.
    I had the same problem.

Thanks all, I managed to machine some nuts out of some old tca adjusters and turn make the spaces smaller. All fits great now.
