how much do you think you would charge for them?
how much of the reinforcement plates would you include because some ive seen seem to miss some out?
any pictures or have you not made any yet?
I wanted some of these last year, some guy on ebay was supposedly making them but they never got posted out, he was wanting £100 approx, express ones are expensive if they come up, i looked for nearly 18mths and never found any ended up selling the car.
I would say if you could copy them so they look original you would sell them easily enough if priced correctly.

Was looking at fabricating a trial set and posting pictures on here me and my dad would be making them as close to the originals as possible I have a leg at the bead blasters now and dad has C.A.D the drawings up so it's a case of testing the water to see who's intrested
As for cost this is hobby work so cost would be as low as possible / material costs
Please let me know regarding this :-)
Expressed steel want £366.85 each and I'm sure there's VAT on that price but there's no way we would look at pricing them so bloody high were gonna cost up a prototype and see what the costs are :-)
i'll be needing some but at near £400 i suppose i would "re-build" my own before spending that dosh - so, yeah, count me in
I will keep you posted ASAP once prototypes are done along with cost
do it if they are good copies they will sell. all escort bits do !
Just got of the phone to my dad , his added a suggestion /upgrade we might add chassis tubes for added strength to bolt crossmember too :-)
Daz
Dazzer. If as I am sure you know how difficult it is to get these parts. You would definitely sell them but they have to come into a price bracket that is close to and relative to other parts that are now available. They need to be cheaper than Express and Rainspeed. I am in the process of repairing my own ones as I am not willing to pay Express prices. Make them stronger internally and fit the tubes and I am sure they would suit rally cars and non rally cars alike. Make a set, display them and make some profit.
Cheers
Do we have a guide price that rain speed offer posted to the uk ?
i would go with captive nuts, tubes as an option. (or can be done later but you cant easily go back to nuts )
Will start with captive nuts and if needed will modify as per request I think that's better around
any idea when you might have them ready?
We're looking at purchasing the first batch of plate and box section end of the week hopefully then it's down to good old measure twice , cut once the first pair will be prototypes to post on here and get an idea of costs to share with you lot
Dazzer76. Quote from Rainspeed email - "I can make your chassis legs from 280 GBP each. As I told you they are from 1.5mm steel with tubes for double width kit and x- member."
This was before delivery from Turkey.
Cheers
Thanks for the info Dad and I will be working everything out by the weekend hopefully :-) was there a preference to the finish ie primered , zinc primered bare steel ????? Etc
i am all ear .
i am about to do my front legs, have cut templates but will hang on to see how you get on.
I think id be interested in driver and passenger side with tubes if the qualities good. Looking forward to a price and pictures
this would be a intrest .
and see how they turn out .
keep us informed
You can count me in mate if the price is right, my cars sitting in the garage waiting for a set
if the price is right i dont mind being a "Guinea pig" and testing them out for defects etc...
Chaps,
Small update due to the snow last week plate and channel is now due this week Friday for delivery to local motor factors, once dad and I pick it up its hammers and tongs all parts and getting some of you back on the road again !!!
Kind regards
Daz
Very interested in this too, both my Mk1 and Mk2 need a set of chassis legs, been waiting for an age for some to come up. I'll be up for a set if the price is right. Good luck with it
any idea on a rough price yet buddy?
Chaps have started working with the plate and box section , were looking at modifying them for strength we are looking at making a box section leg with plated shaping and holes to match the original , does this tick your boxs ? We're using 3 mm box section , I will upload pics as soon as I can , looks like we might be able to do a left and right for approx 200 - 300 a pair but I think we might be able to trim this as we get better at them :-) fingers crossed chaps
That sounds right up my street mate, not worried about the finish (primer etc...) if you can make them strong and keep the cost way down im still interested in a set
i cant speak for everybody else but i would be happy to pay £200 a set
yeah id be interested in a set as well with the cross member tubes, 200 sounds good to me too. but id still like to see a few photos first.
Chaps dad and me have appointment with 3 steel laser cutter/ folder company's tommorow , we have the final cad files and will be using not 1.2 mm but 1.5 mm steel . we've been working for the last few weeks working out a cost effective manufacture method and in such a way they are cheap , strong and as close to originals as possible down to the last hole and fold . For the purists of you out there we will be making a basic leg , for those who want x member tubes or no crumple zones just solid legs were gonna make them to order so please be patiant this is all new to me and dad subbing fabrication out to get crisp shape and folds but we want nothing but the best for you the possible buyers so fingers crossed for tommorow .... As soon as we know ill post our designs and proto type pictures on this post just be patiant please
Regards
Daz and Dad
UPDATE !!!!
Chaps the cogs are all in motion we've just laid out the money for a fabricator to laser cut the templates and fold and stamp the holes in the plate.
We got a 2 week wait until final units get picked up and for us to post the pictures, I know this has taken a while but dad and I have toyed with various combinations to keep cost down.
Regards
Daz and dad
nice to hear.
Takes as long as it takes, i think most people including myself are just thankful that you and your dad are offering a cheap solution for us rather than patching up our old rotten ones or paying extortionate prices
Thanks chaps all we want is for you the final buyers to be happy that your ford will last another 40 years :-) and places like expressed steel need to wise up a little me thinks !!!!!
Great news!! Can't wait to see the prototype pictures.
Good news have called the fabricators and the CNC programming and folding is near complete I pick them up next week and can post the pictures up for you lot to cast your eye on , these have cost me and dad a fair few £££ to get done so I hope you lot are happy and want some
Kind regards
Daz and dad
Evening chaps
Need some feedback
There's 3 options we can sort for you lot
1). Weld standard m12 nuts to chassis legs
image.jpg
2). Weld these tubes in at a slight extra cost (approx £30)
image.jpg
3). Weld these tubes in at a slight extra cost (approx £34)
image.jpg
Your help on this will decide our final out come for these legs once we pick them up this week to post on here
Kind regards
Daz and dad
id say the top option buddy, if i change my mind ill weld the tubes in myself at a later date.
the main thing for me is just to keep the price down
cant speak for everybody else though, ultimately im not massively fussed and will still have a pair off ya if the majority want the tubes and the price is close to the £200 a pair mark

My preference is the middle option as these are a replaceable solution, but I can understand that many people will go for the more original top option.
